English 10: Wednesday September 30th, 2015

Good Morning!

We are going to be dividing into groups based on the issue you chose to write your reflection on
1) Sibling rivalry
2) Jealousy
3) Conformity
4) spiritual beliefs
*within your groups you will be dividing even further into groups of 3-4. One person will be the recorder and will write down your groups thoughts.

Within your group, you will discuss the items you wrote about in the draft of your reflection.
-Is there anything you want to change or add?

-Class time will be given to write out your good copy of your reflection:

English 10: Thursday September 24th, 2015

Good Morning!

-Yesterday we started to watch the longer version of the movie “Harrison Bergeron” Today we will continue and finish this movie.

-Two things to work on after this movie:
*complete the short story summary for “Harrison Bergeron”. This can be found on Sharepoint.
*yesterday we talked about the three way venn diagram. This is to learn how to differentiate between similarities and differences…(compare/contrast) which is a skill you will need to learn for the provincial exam.

English 10: Tuesday September 22nd, 2015

Good Morning!

-Yesterday we worked on the short story “The Chaser”.  We will start today by discussing and going over the questions from the worksheet “The Chaser worksheet” found on sharepoint.

-We are going to start a new short story today: “Harrison Bergeron”. We will read this story aloud as a class.

-Reflection/Discussion Question:  Discuss your ideas for a perfect society. Is it possible to create such a society?

*write down your thought on the above question …be prepared to share your thoughts with the class.

-We will complete a “Short Story Summary” for this short story (found in the short story folder on sharepoint).

-We will watch the movie “2081” which is an adaptation of this short story.  After we watch the movie, we will create a 3 way venn diagram (the third part will be added after:)

-we will also post the paragraph on to your edublog.

-On Friday, we read the short story “House” by Jane Rule.  For homework, you were to complete a short story summary as well as questions #1,3, and 5. We will go over these at the start of class.

-We will start to read the short story “The Chaser“.  In Sharepoint, please open the short story as well as “The Chaser Worksheet”. We will need both documents open as we will be working on the worksheet as we read…

 

English 10: Friday September 18th, 2015

Good Morning!

Yesterday you all did a great job working on writing out your draft from you template! We then moved into partners (randomized)…if you were absent, you need to see me to get a partner.  For homework, you were to ensure that the “Peer Edit Review: Sam the Athlete” was complete and emailed to your partner.

-We will start to read “House” by Jane Rule

pre-reading question: “Do you sometimes feel social pressure to conform to society?

-Discuss the story at the end….

-Brainstorm the characteristics of the character “Anna”

-short story summary (found in the short story folder on sharepoint) (and questions “1,3 and 5 for homework (found at the end of the story)
