*We were going to do Socratic Literature Circles Today.  To give you more time to prepare post long weekend, we will do these starting on Wednesday May 22nd. After No Red Ink you may work on one of the following two ongoing assignments:

Our new novel:  “Of Mice and Men”.  This will not be a read aloud.  This will be a ‘Novel Study’…so you will have work, assignments and a test.

Chapter 1: 

-Give students a piece of blank paper.  Read aloud Chapter 1

-Students are to listen to the description of the setting and try to picture what the setting of the novel may be like.  They are to draw a rough sketch of what they have imagined. 

-Steinbeck uses different techniques in his writing/descriptions –comparison (simile, metaphor, personification etc) detail, and appealing to the senses.
