Friday Writes: What makes a scary story? Brainstorm
*Yesterday, We finished class by reading the poem “My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose” by Robert Burns. We are going to write our own ‘Love’ poems. This does not have to be a romantic poem or even a poem about another person! It can be about a video game, a book, nature or anything of your choosing…
*Group discussion/note taking –what are the themes and messages of the above 3 poems and when looking at them now, what does their message say about the cultural, social and historical context of each of these poems and the message we can learn from them now?
*We will have 20 minutes or so to finish up our analysis on our five poems: The Road Not Taken, If, Oh Captain My Captain, I Too Sing America, and Art Reflecting Life.
This lesson is about learning rhythm and scansion. It is usually a harder topic to learn. It is regarding how to learn iambic pentameter or trochaic tetrameter for example.
