Hello!

*Reminder:  Today the heat will be off for the eco challenge.

*Period 2 (A Block) …there will be a fire drill today at 9:10

*Novels:  Looking Ahead…we will be reading the following novels in Literature Circles.  When I return, I will talk about these novel titles…but in case you are interested and want to look these books up:

  1.  All The Light We Cannot See
  2. The Kite Runner
  3. The Nightingale
  4. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
  5. Red Rising

*Spoken Words:  You have time to work on the writing portion of your spoken word… But first…Quick writes using imagery and sensory language.

Choose one of the following topics below.  Write on this topic using imagery and sensory language.  (approximately 10 minutes).  After the 10 minutes are up, I want you to go back to your write and add devices, rhymes, word play if possible (5 more minutes) for a total of 15 minutes.

You will then repeat this exercise with a second word from the list.

  1.  Anger
  2. Peace
  3. Despair
  4. Hope
  5. Freedom

*After you have written on two of the above words, you have time to work on your spoken word.

*Spoken Word:  Brainstorming activitiy

Warm up spoken word free write activity:  Practice writing with imagery that includes all five senses.  Students describe an abstract or intangible entity using all senses:  what do they look, sound, smell, taste and feel like?

Examples:  Choose 2 of the following examples and write for five minutes each using imagery/sensory language.

a. homesickness

b. grief

c. love

d. joy

e. emptiness

f.  time

g. envy
