Everyone has felt like they are being watched at one point in their life, but nothing like Marcus. Marcus is a 17 year old teen in grade 12 and is kind of a nerd, he is super into technology and hacking but one day when he skips school the day a bridge gets blown up he gets into some serious trouble. The moral of this story is to not get your freedom taken away and that you are always being watched.

Marcus gets his freedom taken away by a organization called the DHS. This is because a bridge blows up and him and his friends are suspects. The DHS hides a chip in Marcuse’s computer, Marcus finds this when he sees that his computer wasn’t level so he looked on the side and it wasn’t closed properly, so he looks inside and sees the chip that wasn’t there before. Because Marcus found a chip in his computer he is super paranoid of there being other things n his room. He thinks that there are cameras or microphones in his room because he is super paranoid after finding the chip.

These days there are cameras literally everywhere, on the streets in your phones in shops. These days it is almost impossible not to be tracked down and because of this no one has real freedom. Because Marcus is always being watched he gives up being a role model for everyone on xnet because he doesn’t want to get in trouble, and go through what he went through last time. Also through out the story he find DHS agents or what he thinks are DHS agents following him and watching him, like on his way home from the fairy thing there were two muscular big men following him around.

Throughout the story Marcus is forced to give away his private information to the DHS. Its ironic because Marcus likes to keep his life private and is kind of shy. When severe haircut lady questioned him, he didn’t want to tell her anything even when he said he doesn’t have anything to hide. He thinks he should not have to prove he is innocent by showing that he has nothing to hide. Although he doesn’t have anything illegal in his phone or computer, he has information about himself and his friends that he doesn’t want shared, like all the hacking, skipping school and other things he doesn’t want other people to know. Also one of the big things in the story is to not blindly follow, like when Ange wanted to go to that concert even though it was illegal, and Marcus just went with her because he liked her so much. it’s the same with the vampire game in the city mall, and he ended up getting way worse consequences from that.

So the moral of the story was to not let your freedom get taken away and you are always being watched. Marcus has done some dumb stuff like blindly follow Ange skip school and get pretty much arrested because of it and also not fight back against the DHS at first. But what do you thing would have happened if he didn’t skip school, would the same thing happen, would none of this happen?

Poetry Project

This city is beauty
unbreakable and amorous as eyelids,
in the streets, pressed with fierce departures,
submerged landings,
I am innocent as thresholds
and smashed night birds, lovesick,
as empty elevators

let me declare doorways,
corners, pursuit, let me say
standing here in eyelashes, in
invisible breasts, in the shrinking lake
in the tiny shops of untrue recollections,
the brittle, gnawed life we live,
I am held, and held

the touch of everything blushes me,
pigeons and wrecked boys,
half-dead hours, blind musicians,
inconclusive women in bruised dresses
even the habitual grey-suited men with terrible
briefcases, how come, how come
I anticipate nothing as intimate as history

would I have had a different life
failing this embrace with broken things,
iridescent veins, ecstatic bullets, small cracks
in the brain, would I know these particular facts,
how a phrase scars a cheek, how water
dries love out, this, a thought as casual
as any second eviscerates a breath

and this, we meet in careless intervals,
in coffee bars, gas stations, in prosthetic
conversations, lotteries, untranslatable
mouths, in versions of what we may be,
a tremor of the hand in the realization
of endings, a glancing blow of tears
on skin, the keen dismissal in speed

1.The poem “From Thirsty” is a poem about a man, This man has experienced pain, not a physical pain but a mental pain, the pain of love being broken, the visions hovering over him on the edge But he is not enjoying the feelings, all he wants is peace and understanding.
2.This poem is a 3rd person poem as it is narrating about a man who is over looking his city. A city in Toronto Ontario in the early 2000 but as the man claims, the city never happend
3. note the diction (word choice) of the poet:
Word choice: fierce (abstract) she chose this word to add more effect to the poem and to make it more interesting one unfamiliar word is gentle, smashed (abstract) she used this word to make it more intense one unfamiliar word is hugged. Another word is inconclusive (concrete)she used this word to make it better than not leading to a firm conclusion an unfamiliar word is conclusive, gnawed (abstract) she used this word because it is really descriptive one unfamiliar word is chewed. Embraces (abstract) she used this word because it is a good word for that scenario an unfamiliar word for embraces is hates.
Denotation is the literal or dictionary meaning of the word
Connotation is the meaning that is implied by a word apart from the thing which it describes explicitly
The poem is free of cliches
4. Determine the tone of the poem:
the poem seems very serious but also contemplative with 5 stanzas the poem is serious because of the intense, descriptive and odd words. Words that set the tone are, beauty because it starts of the poem talking about something another word is fierce because it is intense and is more of a darker word, declare, it is descriptive. Also terrible, because it lets you know that something is really bad and is very intense. Embrace because it is much more joyful and upbeat than terrible. The tone changes quite frequently within the poem.
5. Determine the rhythmical devises used by the poet:
There are 5 stanzas and they are 7 lines each. There are no rhyme schemes in this poem or any rhymes at all.

7. When I read this poem it made me feel the emotions Dionne Brand was trying to express, sorrow, darkness, loneliness, reading it repeated the emotions, no matter how many times you read the poem everything will sound fresh and new, giving the emotions a new life. After this for every city you visit for every person you pass, you will have a different opinion

Song analysis – English

this is my song analysis i chose…

A-Team, A-Team
Please don’t try to play us
A-Team, aw, A-Team
Please don’t try to play us
A-Team, aw, A-Team
Call my B up, call Sherita
Let’s link up, ain’t no days off
‘Less I’m paid off, these boys play soft
We just play ball
A-Team, won’t you sign up
Join my roster, you a scholar
A-Team, know you ready
My right hand steady, coach you if you let me
A-Team, got that A1
A1 steak sauce, aw can’t take loss
A-Team, join my FIFA
Roll my weed up, keep my D up
Aw, A-Team
When I back off the curb
In back of the back the Batmobile heard
I’m back on alert
I’m back what’s the word
I’m back what’s the word
I’m back in the third
They back on my mind, they back on my nerves
Can’t take back the time so I’m back, back, back spending
I’m back on the splurge, I’m back on the splurge
They jump when I jump out then jump in and swerve swerve (Yeah, yeah)
It’s halftime gon’ show that
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
I’m a dog you know that
Can’t be from New Jersey how you throw back
A-Team, A-Team
Please don’t try to play us
A-Team, aw, A-Team
Please don’t try to play us
A-Team, aw, A-Team

Imagery:

Describing words:
-alert
-splurge
-swerve

Alliteration:
-yeah
-I’m back
-swerve
-a team

Simile:
-please don’t try to play us
-A1
-I’m a dog

Metaphor:
-I’m a dog

Vivid language:
-splurge
-swerve
-dog
-boys
Word choice:
-swerve, he chose this word because it is more descriptive and in depth than to move directions over and over.
-splurge, he used this word because it is more descriptive
-dog, he used this word because he is trying to say that he is tough and grew up in a rough neighborhood
-boys, he said boys because boys is kind of a gangster way of saying friends
TONE, ATTITUDE

Which words are chosen to create a mood/feeling?:
-swerve
-dog
-boys
-word
-gon’
-Throw back
These words are chosen because they add another level of affect to the song in the way that this is a rap song and these are kind of gangster words

Does the tone change in the poem?:
-yes

The poem is happy and celebratory

Alarm, he is being aware of his surroundings and being careful
The literal meaning is a loud noise meaning something is wrong or you are in trouble

Because it adds more effect to the song, makes it more descriptive and it gives it more of a gangster feeling.

STYLE:
-free verse because it doesn’t have any of the characteristics of the other types of poems
-there are 3 quatrain not including the repeated parts
-there are lots of rhymes in the song there are also rhyme schemes
-A-team the – isn’t necessary

INTERPRETATION:
-The artist is talking about the “A-team” which I am guessing is a very good team or the #1 team for some sort of sport team because it talks about FIFA and roster, FIFA is soccer but it also talks about basketball so it is probably one of the two. He is also expressing the rap culture with rhymes, words and phrases. Other than that he isn’t really sending any other messages.
-I don’t think it was written for a certain person in my opinion but In the song he talks about him wanting someone to join his roster.
-this song wasn’t written about a historical or important event but some of his other songs are.
– the narrator is Travi$ Scott
– to me the song means to always try for the best teams, colleges and jobs in sports or anything else in life and to not give up and train, study and just to not start things and don’t finish them, also to always try to be the best at what you do. The reason the song means this to me is from when he talks about the “A-team” which I can predict is the best team and he talks about not taking days off it kind of means to me to not give up and to practice, also when he says cant take loss it means to me that you should always try to be the beat at what you do. I can relate to this because since I am on the basketball team I am always trying my best, trying to improve, practice, to prove myself to the other players and trying to be the best on the team.

analysis:

Some of the describing words and vivid language in this song are alert, splurge dog, dog. I think he chose swerve because it is more descriptive and in depth than to move directions over and over. I think he chose splurge because it is more descriptive, dog because he is trying to say he is tough, he grew up in a rough neighborhood and it is expressing his rap culture. Also boys I think he used this term instead of any other words because boys is kind of a gangster way of saying friends. Finally think he chose alert in the way he did because it fit the best out of all the options. Some alliteration are, yeah, I’m back, swerve and A-team also some similes are, please don’t try to play us, A1 and I’m a dog. I could only find one metaphor and it was I’m a dog.
This song does have lots of feeling and mood so here are some of the words that make this song like that, swerve, dog, boys, word, gon’ and throw back these words express feeling and mood because they add another level of effect in the way that this is a rap song and these are kind of gangster words and that is what rap is based on. The tone changes the poem and it is a happy and celebratory poem I think this because it isn’t sad lyrics they aren’t the most happy lyrics but they defiantly aren’t sad. One of the connotations is alarm, he uses it as being aware of his surroundings and being careful. The literal meaning is an anxious awareness of danger. The reason the artist uses this tone and feeling is because it adds more effect to the song, makes it more descriptive and it gives it more of a gangster feeling.
A-team is a free verse because it doesn’t have any of the characteristics of the other types of poems and is just free. There are 3 quatrain not including the repeated parts. There are also lots of rhymes in the song and rhyme schemes some of the rhymes are, “know you ready my right hand steady, coach you if you let me”, also “ain’t no days off’ Less I’m paid off, these boys play soft”,” I’m a dog you know that Can’t be from New Jersey how you throw back” and those are just some of the many rhymes in the song. There is also one odd use of punctuation in the song and that is the – in the A-team it is still fine but it isn’t necessary.
The artist is talking about the “A-team” which I am guessing is a very good team or the #1 team for some sort of sport team because it talks about FIFA and roster, FIFA is soccer but it also talks about basketball so it is probably one of the two.
