marijuana legalization

why it should be legal

I think marijuana should be legal. the main reason why I think this is because, people are going to use it no matter  what, but its better for them to get it from a trusted shop than some dealer that has no idea what is in it, with it being legal you can go into a store and get weed you know wont kill you and is laced with other drugs. also Marijuana is legal in some form in close to half the states in the U.S. and a majority of the country supports legalization, also legalization could lead to billions of dollars in tax revenue so the government would make loads of money, states with legalization are doing just fine, the link between legalization and more pot use is inconclusive, legalization also helps us better understand marijuana’s health effects, No one has ever died of a marijuana overdose, Around 40% of Americans have already admitted to using marijuana. One of the biggest and most widespread arguments from marijuana detractors is that smoking marijuana will lead to using other drugs. As scientific American points out, the studies that show people who use marijuana first before trying other drugs is correlation and not causation. People who go on to use harder drugs also tend to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol before trying the other substances plus with our current stigma on pot only people who are predisposed to being a “outlaw drug user” are going to smoke pot. On top of all of this, as mentioned above, nearly half the country has already tried pot which is much much more than the percentage of Americans who are left handed.

why it shouldn’t be legal

Smoking any substance will have a negative and potentially life-threatening effect on your respiratory health. Marijuana use can affect a person’s memory, IQ, judgment, and problem-solving skills. There are many cases, linking the use of marijuana to the increased chance of forming a mental illness, although there is little scientific evidence to prove this. Marijuana use, like the use of alcohol, can cause impairment in the user. This means if a person is driving whilst under the influence, they may be more prone to having a collision and potentially harming a pedestrian or fellow road user. There is also a chance that marijuana use during work will reduce your ability to perform your job efficiently, which can be potentially dangerous for certain professions. legalization may increase its abuse. The most widely used drugs in society are legal ones. Alcohol is perhaps the most common, with cigarettes being a close second, marijuana being the third most widely used recreational drug. The legalization of cannabis will lead to a rise in its use and consumption because it is more accessible. Besides, the price of marijuana is dropping.
