Here are some tips you should know when it comes to safety 🙂
Fire:
-Do not, I repeat, do not ever pour water on a flame of a grease fire. Here’s what happens when you do:
(Imagine that but in your kitchen, that’s not something you would want to imagine)
-Always turn off elements of the stove or over after you are done with it. It could most likely cause a fire!
Here is a video of a guy explaining what happened to his neighbour:
(Don’t let you be responsible for burning down the house)
Burns/Scalds:
-Use a wooden spoon to stir contents in a pot instead of a metal spoon.
-Run a burn under cold/ cool water.
Chemicals:
-Don’t mix household cleaners together.
-Wear proper gear when cleaning with harsh chemicals.
Slips/Trips/Falls:
-Clean up spills immediately to prevent anyone falling or slipping.
-Always make sure your shoes are tied.
Cuts:
-Cut away from you when using a knife
-Never throw a knife into a sink of water to let it soak
-Pick up small pieces of broken glass with a damp paper towel
Heavy Lifting:
-Use your legs to lift
-Ask for help if something is too heavy
How to prevent food poisoningÂ
-Don’t eat foods that have mould on them
-Do not eat from a can that is bulging. (Throw it out!)
Waste ManagementÂ
-Put Recyclables in Recycling bin
-Remember that the paper towels go into the compost bin
Personal Hygiene:
-Tie your hair back
-Wash your hands before you start cooking and in between if you are working with things such as raw meat or eggs.
That’s it. Always remember, safety first!
