Journal Response #3 Question
Vocab: Illusion – a thing that is or is likely to be wrongly perceived or interpreted by the senses.
Find 3 examples of similes and explain how they illustrate the tone during that section of the story
- “His thoughts fled in panic, like bandits from a burglar alarm”. (pg.176) This sets the tone for the beginning of the story. It makes you sense the struggle and the sadness from the story.

Harrison looked like a walking junkyard”. (Pg 178)
3. “He tore the straps of his handicap harness like wet tissue paper, tore straps-iron handicaps crashed to the floor.”(p.179) For this simile we can know he hate, and don’t want his handicap. It makes sad tone for end of this story.
