Newspaper Practice – “Harrison Bergeron”

14 Year Old Boy Gone Rogue!

Kenya Anand

Harrison Bergeron, a young prisoner, escaped prison earlier today and took over the national television station as this boy had taken off all of his handicaps, completely disobeying the amendments before he was shot down.

Bergeron claimed that he became “emperor” and elected an “empress,” a young dancer, and removed her handicaps as well.

Bergeron had also removed musicians’ handicaps and claimed that they would become, “earls, barons and dukes”.

Bergeron and the ballerina began to dance; they leaped as high as 30 feet, kissing the studio’s ceiling, somehow abandoning the laws of gravity and motion, nevermind the laws of the land.

Both were shot down by Diana Moon Glampers, Handicapper General, while they were dancing in the studio; she also threatened to shoot the musicians if they did not have their handicaps back on within the next ten seconds.

After this, the television turned off; many claim to have forgotten about this incident, including Bergerons own mother. “I forgot,” she said. “Something real sad on television.”

Since this event, there had been more incidents of citizens removing their handicaps. Now, cases have nearly tripled. The future of this nation is compromised.

  1. 1. Nice job on your title.

    2. like the detail that Harrison and the ballerina danced and how they got killed.

    – I think you need more information about what happened after the conflict.

-need a coma inside. [elected an “empress”, a young dancer,]

  2. Thank you for posting your practice/attempt of turning a short story into a newspaper article. The following are my suggestions based on your post:

    – Headline and byline are completed properly
    – The lead paragraph answers all of the relevant questions with appropriate information
    – Explanation and additional information is well-written and provides proper details to fulfil these sections

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask!
