Reflection: When making my design, I knew what equations to use based off of what shape I was looking for, and I could change them if a different function was a better fit. I had a challenge finding an image that was reasonable to work with given the time. I also had a struggle shading a part of the body because another shade wouldnt let me overlap it due to the opacity, but I realized it wasn’t worth the time trying to fight it. I didn’t have any extreme moments of joy in this project, no aha-moments. I did not get any help for this project, I worked entirely on my own and created everything from start to finish. A strategy I used was recalling previous projects and remembering what shapes work well for certain images, as well as knowing how to shade. I didn’t need to make a custom colour because I know how to mix colours, so for example I just put a bit of black over the red to shade the body. I was able to squeeze a sin function in, which is new to all of us this year. I also was able to use transformations for certain repeating shapes instead of making more functions, as I would have in previous years. All in all, I know the image is silly, and it certaintly wouldnt’ve been my first choice, but it was quite easy to shade.

Core Competencies: In this video project, I was able to use my Critical and Creative Thinking Competencies while working with my partners. I used Creative Thinking when coming up with animation ideas and deciding how we should present our knowledge and applied more creative thinking in the acting process. There was also lots of fun in finding out how to make myself look like I had the injuries that I did, as well as creating the funeral tableau. Critical Thinking was more evident in attempting to link meaning and Newton’s Three Laws to the funny video we created. After everything, we have a funny video and have learned tips on how to drive responsibly.

Reason For Choosing Topic:

I tried a few other topics before this one and found that they didn’t really work and that I couldn’t display it in a way that I found was creative or fun. So, I chose the topic of death. I also find it quite interesting. Another reason I wanted to do this topic is because while brainstorming visual ideas, I thought of the way to display Heart Disease and Cancer and figured that there could be similar ways to convey everything else through metaphors/symbols.

Self Reflection:

Desmos Art Functions Card 2021

This is my Functions Card project! The picture on the bottom is a picture that I traced and shaded using functions! This is based off the picture on the above, if it isn’t obvious. I think that it was really interesting to watch it all come together, even though it was quite time consuming. I found out which equations to use by thinking about which type of shape I needed and how to best fit it in. Then, by doing the math, or some guessing and checking for some more minor details, I had equations to best fit my reference photo. A challenge I had was time and motivation. This project was taxing, I will say that. When I needed help, I asked my friends and teacher for help. They were all a huge help and my time was a lot easier thanks to them. A strategy I used was when I had two shapes that were similar, I’d copy and paste the formula and just make minor alterations. This assignment helped me further understand functions and graphing and what happens when you use certain formulas. It also helped me learn to shade better because there was lots of that to do. Overall, I am very proud of my work and I like how it turned out.
