El Valle de la Muerte
Like clouds, like dreams, our people come and go.
Nothing and nobody can stop them
Fears and dreams and hopes of these brave immigrants
Crudeness that the innocent vision of a child can communicate
This reality that affects our society
The moon and a compass to guide their path
The stars are always so sad, the witnesses to the deaths of millions
Not being able to help them
Once on the train, the angst that in a single second they could lose their lives
The fear of being raped, assaulted, kidnapped
El valle de la muerte
God, is it worth it?
When did this massacre become boring news for the people?
God, just let them cross the borders of the world
Let them find a better future
Let them find a sanctuary
All of these sacrifices
Just for them to come to a country where they are treated like aliens
The lack of humanity
Children are being separated from their parents
Left alone
In despair
Unaccompanied
Vulnerable
They have the right to fight for their life, because just like you
They are human beings.
I read the article on the conditions that immigrant kids are being held in at the border, and I thought I would try and get into their perspective, while also adding some of my own personal experiences.

New Media 12 Intro Assignment
The impact of creativity in my life.
- What stories, videos, content on the internet inspires you, scares you, makes you think, makes you angry, makes you want to read/watch more? Share some examples
Personally, stories that have a bigger impact in my life and gets me into reading more are those involving immigrants and their life along the border. This has been a topic of interest for me for a long time now, as it involves subjects of human rights and social justice in it, but most importantly because I, myself, am an immigrant and have been through some similar experiences as well. Lately, stories about the conditions that immigrant kids are facing in border detention are the ones that have had a bigger impact in my life. It is unbelievable the circumstances that these kids are put in and, in some way, it feels like history repeating itself. An example of what I am trying to say would be the story of when conditions for detainees where exposed to the media, and the facts that “there have been the deaths of twenty-four adults in ICE custody and in addition, six children between the ages of two and sixteen that died in federal custody,” said in an article by Andrea Pitzer for the NYR Daily. People have started comparing these conditions to those of concentration camps during the Holocaust, and that is why it is so important to take action and speak up about this. –
- If you could interview any one person in the world, who would it be and why?
If I had the opportunity to interview anyone in the world, I would love to interview Tyler, The Creator. He is a creator in bloom and someone very creative that I myself look up to. The reason why I would love to interview him its because I would love to learn more about what goes inside his mind, how he has gotten so much bigger over the years and how he has done all these amazing things such as produce and write music, start a fashion line, direct music videos, etc. It is just so amazing and inspiring to see other people out there doing things.
- What are you passionate about? What do you stand for? How do you express your passion? Does your online activity support your passion, values and interests? How so?
I consider myself passionate about art and music, I like to express it by composing music and by always supporting others who do the same kind of things as me. I would agree that my online activity supports my passions, values and interests; doing little things to show this would be such as following creators, liking posts with such, etc. Another big thing is that I am a contributor for Know-It-All Magazine, giving me and many others a platform to speak up and share our art and writing.
- Do you believe that you should have a say in how society works?
Yes, I do believe that you, me, everyone, should have a say in how society works, as we are all part of society. Most specifically, teenagers, as we are the future. We should have the right to also have a say in how this world works, because we will be the next generation living in this world.
- What are your expectations for this course?
I would like to ameliorate my writing and my English so that I can acquire better skills that can help me in the future and help me express myself in a better way and show the world what I am thinking. I have always found it hard to find the right words, to find inspiration… And hopefully this course will help me to do so.
