Why Sam Should Wear a Skirt
Everybody should be able to do whatever their hearts desires no matter what situation they are in. “Sam the Athlete” written by Stuart McLean, is a short story about a young boy named Sam, who finally wants to fit in. He discovers a sport that he is actually good at, but figures out that there is a little problem, he has to wear a skirt. Sam should be able to wear the skirt due to these reasons. Sam had never felt confident in himself, “And Sam’s skirt was making him so happy or, more to the point, he was happy when he was wearing his skirt..” (68). Everybody has the right to do whatever pleases them. Even though Sam did not have to wear the skirt, due to the team being co-ed, it reminded him that he is talented at something, and was a symbol of finally fitting in. Sam was so dedicated on being apart of something he “… went home and shaved his legs” (68). He did not know that fitting in could have meant just being yourself. Never let society judge whatever or whoever you want to be! Fitting in for some, can be very difficult or easy, be yourself and you may just find the right people.
