PHYSICS 12
COURSE CODE: MPH – – 12

FOUNDATION COURSE: PHYSICS 11

*Optional Workbook will be used in class

The Physics 12 curriculum is built around 4 core concepts:
1. Measurement of Motion: Motion depends on our frame of reference.
2. Forces and Motion: Forces can cause both linear and circular motion.
3. Fields and Energy: Forces and energy interactions occur within fields.
4. Momentum Conservation: Momentum is conserved within a closed and isolated system.
Units that will be covered:
• Kinematics: Predict, describe, and analyze an object’s motion in two dimensions (2-D Kinematics).
• Forces: Understand how forces influence the motion of an object in two dimensions (2-D Dynamics).
• Momentum and Energy: Explore how momentum and energy are conserved in closed systems (2-D Momentum and Energy).
• Electrostatics: Electric fields and forces describe how charges interact.
• Electromagnetic Forces and Induction: The electromagnetic force produces both electricity and magnetism.
• Forces in Equilibrium: An object in equilibrium experiences zero net force and zero net torque.
• Circular Motion and Gravitation: Circular motion results from a center-seeking force and is used to describe and predict the motion of objects.
• Gravitational forces and fields explain how masses interact.
This course integrates core and curricular competencies, hands-on lab work, technology, and projects, to meet the learning outcomes. Both content knowledge and lab skills (curricular competencies) will be assessed through lab work, projects, assignments, and unit tests.
