Digital Footprint

1. How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities? Give at least two examples.

My digital footprint may be searched up by my future universities or colleges. If I have some post or bad search history it may affect me from attending the school. You have to manage your digital footprint and that will give you a good first impression for university.  Another way that your digital footprint may affect your future opportunities is when bad people search up names and all your information and all about you is there. They might use that information to use your identity or in some cases try to kidnap you. In your digital foot print make sure that any personal information such as attended schools or age and birth are to be safe.

2.  Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.

  1. In your social media bio don’t write your school, sport, age, birthday, name and etc.
  2. turn off location in your smartphone in settings. This will prevent from the internet from knowing where you have been in the last hour.
  3. Don’t post much on social media and it won’t pop up when you search up your name.

3.  What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?

I learned that a lot can be found on the internet when you search up your name. When I first saw what was showing for my name I was scared, I have so many personal information such as my schools, soccer team and my background that is from Afghanistan. I would pass on this useful information and aware others that they’re digital footprint is huge and that you they to manage it. First I would search there name up and if there’s personal info or bad stuff about them I would advise them to manage and follow my three strategies.
