Students learn trades and technology skills and earn credit towards secondary school graduation. This course allows students to explore trades or technology careers. Trades covered include Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry and may also include one or more of Joinery, Drafting, Painting, Welding and Steel-stud and T-Bar ceiling (lathing). This course is an excellent introduction to the apprenticeship training program and offered in conjunction with the Ministry of Education and the Industry Training Authority (ITA). The ITA awards provincial credentials (Certificates of Qualification and Red Seal Designation). There are no prerequisites for this course.

FOUNDATION COURSE: FOUNDATIONS IN TRADES 11

Trades covered include Drywalling, Roofing and Tiling and may also include one or more of Carpentry, Drafting, Painting, and Joinery. This course is the next phase of the introductory Foundation in Trades 11 Program. This course provides students essential skills that they can use in the future and allows them to move onto apprenticeship training programs offered in conjuction with the Ministry of Education and the Industry Training Authority (ITA). The ITA awards provincial credentials (Certificates of Qualification and Red Seal Designation).

This course is a continuation of the skills practiced in IT Peer Tutoring 11. There is an increased expectation for involvement and taking on responsibility with course activities, as well as a focus on developing problem solving techniques with students learning multiple strategies including: identification of the problem, analysis of possible solutions, implementation of a solution and test/review.

Robotics 11 is a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) course where students will learn the skills in design, program, and develop the electronics to engineer their own robot. Using a variety of resources and software, including Sphero robots, Vex, Sumo Bots, Arduino Boards, circuit boards, sensors, and motors, students will complete a series of electronics projects to learn the fundamentals of digital circuits and programming, CAD (Computer Aided Design), CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture). Students will have the opportunity to design and build a custom robot to solve real-world problems and/or compete in competitive robotics.

Content Areas:  Electrical theory, production of circuits, electric diagnostic testing, CAD (Computer Aided Design), CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture), robot design, robot elements programming platforms.

This advanced course offers students the opportunity to explore their potential in Robotics Design and Manufacture as a way of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Students will enhance their skills in a practical and hands-on environment. Students may work as members of design teams, in a variety of roles to research, design, build, manufacture, program, and test robots.  Students may also have the opportunity of competing in VEX Robotics competitions locally and provincially.

Content Areas:  electrical theory, production of circuits, electric diagnostic testing, PCB board design and manufacture, Advanced CAD (Computer Aided Design), Advanced CAM (Computer Aided Manufacture), robot design, robot elements programming platforms.

This advanced Specialty Course offers students the opportunity to participate in COMPETITIVE ROBOTICS (Vex Competition) as a way of developing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills in a practical and hands-on environment. Students work as members of design teams, in a variety of roles to research, design, build, market, program, test and compete with robots.  This course will be offered in Period 1 (7:30 to 8:55 am) and teaching times will be an adjusted schedule in November and December to allow students to have the opportunity to extend the course through February and early March to compete in Robotics (approximately 45 hours).  Students will be required to compete in a minimum of 2 VEX Robotics competitions that are hosted locally in the Lower Mainland. 

There is a suggested fee of $250 to cover Team Fees, Competition fees, and Robot Design Requirements beyond the Vex Competition Kits.

Recommended: Students are required to apply and complete an application form.  Priority will be given to students who have proven STEAM and Collaborative experience.

Become apart of the Cisco Academy, the world’s largest information technology (IT) school. Potential salaries are 6+ figures. This course teaches you how computer networks and security work. You will explore the hardware and software side of computers. computer hardware and computer network repair, maintenance, and communication. No experience required. There is the possibility to write the CCST certification exam, which is an industry standard certification. Extra fees for the certification may exist. This course is open to grades 10-12.

Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching curriculum is the continuation of Computer Info Systems 11. The aim of this course is to further develop the students’ knowledge of network building, network repairing, and communication skills through extensive labs and theory dealing with network hardware and software. Do you have an interest in computer programming? Apply your academics with Computer Programming 11. Learn and expand your programming skills in languages such as JAVA, C++, JavaScript, and/or Python.  Students will also learn effective problem solving skills and the ability to think logically. This course will prepare students for Computer Programming 12 and/or provide a base for post- secondary vocational computer programming courses. Most programming work will happen during class time.

Web Development 10 introduces students to Responsive Web Development and Programming. Students will design and develop responsive web sites, applications, and 2D games using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. It is the aim of the course to develop the skills necessary to be successful in programming and Computer Sciences. Students do not require any prior knowledge of Web Development; however, they should be comfortable with computers and digital media.
