11.4 Misleading Statistics

Reading this article was interesting but not surprising.  I am very aware of the large online presence of fake people. However, I had not considered that they would use FaceBook to meddle in politics. It’s really thought-provoking to see how these unreal identities were able to infiltrate and become accepted into online groups. It shows that it’s not that difficult to be catphished. It’s also a little scary to think that secret people with unknown intentions are influencing leaders. There’s a lot of potential for negative outcomes there. People need to look a little harder at the profiles of who they’re interacting with online because with a smidge of extra effort you could notice suspicious things such as stock image photos. To conclude, it’s eerie that fake names can hold value in politics nowadays. True identities should be the ones having their voices heard and opinions respected.
