How does one forgive after suffering oppression? Forgiving isn’t just about forgetting what the other person has done, but it’s also about healing yourself. One may have terrible experiences and may not want to forgive the other person, but by not forgiving, one is only going to hurt them self. By forgiving, one is forgetting about whatever that happened, and moving on, or having a fresh start with the person you forgave. I learned this from the book “The Forgiveness Garden.” There were 2 villages that were beside each other and the people of the 2 villages hated each other for a long time, but by taking the first step and deciding to forgive the other village (forgetting what happened and having a fresh start), the 2 villages are good together in the end. So how does one forgive? They should know that forgiving is not for the other person, but to heal them self.
