Idea:
For my long-term inquiry project, I’d like to design and create a set of tableware that includes plate, and bowl. My theme is fruits. I wanted to create this project because I enjoy visiting cafes. I love how each cafe has its distinct vibe, interior design, and tableware. I, too, want to design my home café, and I thought making tableware with my design would be a good place to start.
Process – Plate :
At first, I was going to put the clay on top of the mold to make the plate. However, the shape and size of the plate were not what I was looking for, so I went online to look for ideas on how to make it. I considered using a pottery wheel but ended up using another method because I didn’t want to make a flat plate. Instead, I discovered that I could knead a plate which the plate I created is shown below.
After I fired my plate, I applied a few layers of glaze.

Process – bowl:
I used the pottery wheel to create my bowl, which is one of the things that I struggled the most with learning in the course. Before I made my actual bowl, I practiced making a few pieces of ceramics. The practices helped me a lot when I was making the bowl.
I fired the bowl and applied several layers of glaze on it.
The final product:
One of the challenges I faced in completing my project was to learn how to play with clay, as I had little experience working with clay at the beginning, particularly on the pottery wheel. I had to restart my work several times during the process, but after all that practice, I created these magnificent tablewares.
