Long Term Inquiry (PROCESS)

For my inquiry project, there are three part: a palette, a cereal bowl, and a yogurt cup.

My floral palette was the first thing I started working on. I made a slat and used fettling knives to cut out the shape of my palette’s paint holder.I struggled at first to find the correct size paint holder, but after a few tries, everything worked out perfectly, and the size of the paint holder is my ideal size.

While I waited for my palette to dry and bisque fire, I began work on the cereal bowl shown below.Initially, I attempted to make the bowl on the pottery wheel, but failed because my pottery skills are insufficient to create such a large bowl on the wheel. As a result, my alternative method is to use a mold. I learned how to use a giant sponge to put clay on a mold with the help of my teacher, and the bowl turned out exactly how I wanted it to.

After firing the bowl, I began painting it, using three layers of underglaze in total. Because I wanted to make a “rainbow cereal bowl,” I used very vibrant colors for the handle and complementary colors around the bowl.

After my palette had been bisque fired, I applied underglaze to it. I used three layers of underglaze and one layer of overglaze on the cereal bowl.

This is how my palette turned out. Although I like how the pattern turned out after applying overglaze, the shape of the palette is a little strange because it bends when I leave it on a non-flat surface overnight.

After finishing my palette, I started working on my yoghurt cup. This is how it looked like before bisque firing.

For my yogurt cup, I went for a more minimalistic design so I only used tiffany colour.

These are the final product of the cup and bowl.
