The blue whale is one of the largest animals on Earth and can be found in major oceans except for the Arctic. Due to extensive whaling in the middle of the 19th century, the population of blue whales dramatically decreased. Currently, the majority of blue whales are at risk from vessel collisions and entanglements with fishing gear.
By eliminating entanglements and encouraging the use of ropeless fishing gear, which is intended to lessen whale interactions, we can protect blue whales.
