Good afternoon everyone, here is what you will be working on today,

The Hero’s Journey Timeline with your group

Time to work on Letter to a Character

Compose a letter to a character in the space provided. Within the letter, discuss your feelings about their role or the choices they make. Do you approve/disapprove? Why/why not? Refer to specific instances in the novel that brought you to this decision. If you were in their shoes, what might you do differently or the same?

Do not summarize the plot of the story, but explain to the character how you feel about their role. Be honest, personal, and conversational. Exploring why you react the way you do to literature is a valuable lesson because it teaches you about yourself.

Now consider your own novel. Do you recognize any of these archetypes appearing? Better yet, are there any archetypes that your author has taken and messed with within your story? Like a lover who is actually a villain? Or a temptress who is actually an outlaw? Has your author made a character into an unlikely archetype? Consider why? What might your author be trying to achieve?

    • Write a 1 page reflection on archetypes in your novel and how one of two characters fit or don’t fit into archetypes. Look at the explanation for each archetype and consider what parts of your character fits and which don’t. Consider why. Share your hypothesis and reasoning.
    • Due Friday
