Government and Geography; Create a Country

In my socials class, we each created a country based upon our desired location, geography, government philosophy etc. In my project, I chose to create a country called FIshie Ville.

  1. Describe the purpose of the project (ie. making connections between Government and Geography, etc.)

The purpose of the project was to creatively visualize the connections between the government and geography is everyday life.  Imagining how these topics could really work together to form a country. This project was also to demonstrate the creations of countries work as well as the geography of the land to be used as resources and industries.

2. What did you do, that would demonstrate your ability to accomplish the purpose (use evidence from your project)?

in this project, I created a country called Fishie ville, I decided to use a unique government to demonstrate my understanding of how a government may work. In my case, I chose to do an anarchy technocracy,  meaning there would be no laws and rules and the necessary government decisions would be made by a technological generator. This generator would gather information from citizens depending on their wants and needs as a community or individual.

3. What were the benefits of being able to view and peer review of other projects? How did this inform the changes you made?

Getting to review other projects helped me revise and edit mine to the best product I could come up with. I feel that going around and giving feedback based on the checklist also other classmates with their corrections as well. The changes I made were affected by it because I was able to demonstrate how I could improve my project as well as gain some creative ideas on how I could make mine exceeding expectations.

4. What changes have you made to your project that resulted in your end product? Why have you made those changes?

During my revision of my project, I chose to include more background information about my flag and style of government.  I chose to add in this information because I feel that it was necessary to make my ideas more clear when presenting as well as just overall improve the project with more information.

5. What competency does either the project or the process reflect most? Using evidence from what you have completed, how does your product or the creative process demonstrate that competency

I feel that the creative competency best describes my work because I was able to accumulate interesting and visions/ideas. Such as my style of government, my slogan, my geography of my country, the cities. I came up with these ideas by doing extensive research of different types of government as well as discussing with other classmates about my brainstorm ideas. I also decided to come up with a theme for my country that being fish.

Core Competent Canadians

What did you know about the Core Competencies before this activity? what did you learn?

Core competency reflection
Before this activity, I knew that there was 6 core competencies, communication, personal awareness and responsibility, creative thinking, critical thinking, personal and cultural identity. Before this activity, I knew that core competencies help develop skills as well as identify them as they grow and improve. I learned after this activity the detailed descriptions of each competency. Each competency has a specific skill set that can shape important life soft skills such as communication. I also learned that when applying skills such as core competencies there is always room to improve and develop them.

How can your knowledge of the core competencies help you in your school life? personal life?

Knowing about these core competencies will help in school and personal life aspects because acknowledging these skills will help you develop strategies to complete tasks and know what your skills are more successful In these types of environments. Such as communication skills, communication is a key tool in everyday life such as communicating with teachers, classmates, peers and family. Having effective communication skills could help you in the future when in a job interview.  An example from the activity that fell into the communication category would be Craig Kielburger because he used his personal resources to communicate his charity with important individuals that truly advocated for the cause.

Biotechnology and Genetics- Epigenetics

In my science class, we completed a group project about Epigenetics. During this project, we researched articles regarding the topic and created a presentation. During this presentation, I learned many things about epigenetics and how different factors influence epigenetics. epigenetics can also help us research different diseases and possibly find new treatments and cures.

Data visualization

In my science class, we created visualized data presentations to impact the interest in this project.  For my project, I chose to do an Infographic poster to demonstrate the precipitation in Vancouver for the past 10 years. I chose this method because I was able to show my research in an artistic and visually pleasing way. I also chose to do my project this was because with the Piktochart website I was able to demonstrate my data with the variety of tools and programs on the website. This project allowed me to collect, demonstrate as well as confidence data into an understandable matter to use in my infographic poster.

Here is my raw data:

Below is a Core Competency self-reflection that I completed on the project.
