RiseUp- Analysis.

Here is my analysis on my song of choice…

Rise Up- Andra Day

You’re broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can’t find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
And I’ll rise up
High like the waves
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousands times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

When the silence isn’t quiet
And it feels like it’s getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we’ll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
We’ll take it to its feet
And move mountains

And I’ll rise up
I’ll rise like the day
I’ll rise up
I’ll rise unafraid
I’ll rise up
And I’ll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We’ll rise, oh oh
We’ll rise

I’ll rise up
Rise like the day
I’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousands times again
And we’ll rise up
Rise like the waves
We’ll rise up
In spite of the ache
We’ll rise up
And we’ll do it a thousands times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you

Four Square Analysis

Imagery and Figurative Language:

The first time I listened to this song I was at my good friends dance recital and by the end of the dance I was in tears. Since then I always see light pink with a mountain range in the background and think of being powerful and moveing them when they get in my way. I believe that’s what she is saying and that’s my take on it.

Tone/ Attitude:

Listening to this song brings certain emotion that is indescribable, we all come into great sadness at least once in our lives and this song helped me get through some of mine. It helped me push though mountains out of my way from stopping me to get to happier places.

Style:

Andra Day uses repetition in this song so I could easily learn it. Using repetition also makes the song catchy and easier to read and possibly easier to understand.

Interpretation:

The message Andra is trying to get across is that no matter what the obstacle is in your life at that time, you WILL come into conflict with it again. Keep pushing through them; don’t ever stop.

“You’re broken down and tired”. Rise Up is a beautiful song talking about pushing through tough times and over coming hard obstacles in life. Listening to his song on repeate for about a year has created vivid images in my head. Every time I hear this song I see a light pink background with a mountain range in front and a story being told about a girl who pushes through getting bullied by dancing. I see this because that’s where I first heard the song and in that scenario. There is a certain emotion with the sound of this song, you start with a quiet yet meaningful beginning, then that takes you to her powerful voice in the chorus that changes the depressing part of the song to breaking down that brick wall with a sledgehammer and becoming happy with yourself. Throughout the song you will find repition, it creates more powerful images and more imagination in my opinion as more you hear lines more then one time or think about them and the more time to create full meaning of them to you. This ballad is truly moving and the message in the song is so strong; rise up.
