This advanced Specialty Course offers students the opportunity to participate in COMPETITIVE ROBOTICS (Vex Competition) as a way of developing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills in a practical and hands-on environment. Students work as members of design teams, in a variety of roles to research, design, build, market, program, test and compete with robots. This course will be offered in Period 1 (7:30 to 8:55 am) and teaching times will be an adjusted schedule in November and December to allow students to have the opportunity to extend the course through February and early March to compete in Robotics (approximately 45 hours). Students will be required to compete in a minimum of 2 VEX Robotics competitions that are hosted locally in the Lower Mainland.
There is a suggested fee of $250 to cover Team Fees, Competition fees, and Robot Design Requirements beyond the Vex Competition Kits.
Recommended: Students are required to apply and complete an application form. Priority will be given to students who have proven STEAM and Collaborative experience.
