  1. I chose this resource because I think this article points out that we are a very diverse country with many different kinds of people weather they were born in Canada or immigrated here.
  2. This helped me reflect on my perspective of Canadian identity because the article also mentions that Canadians are generally open-minded, kind and polite but that some people had mixed feelings about people immigrating to Canada, and that some people wanted to be like the US, and have a unified culture into which newcomers must assimilate.
  3. Thinking back to a different time period, I noticed that the perspectives would be very different. For example in 1885 immigrants were not as accepted, and the Chinese head tax was a good example. In 1885 the government placed the Chinese head tax because they wanted them to stop immigrating to Canada, but it didn’t work so they kept raising the head tax until they just banned them from coming. This shows that back then immigrants were not accepted like they are now. Back then to fit in and be accepted you generally had to be either English or French.

  1. I chose this resource because it shows the positive characteristics that many Canadians have and some of the things that we as Canadians have.
  2. This helped me reflect because it tells you a lot of the characteristics, but it also helped me realize that people do not always have those characteristics and we are not always kind or great at saying sorry.
  3. I think that there are lots of different perspectives on what Canadians are like. For example, Americans think that we live in igloos and say “eh” all the time. I think that some people would think that Canadians are kind and are very good at apologizing.
