My Digital Footprint

In this post I will be talking about my digital footprint. Your digital footprint plays a very important role in your life now and in the future, because technology is such a large part of our world today it is very important to be aware of how your digital footprint reflects and represents you. When posting something on the internet you have to remember that it will be there forever even if you think you deleted it. Depending on what we do with our digital footprint it could affect our future opportunities. For example, if you were to write something offending or inappropriate on social media and a future employer were to see it, it could determine whether or not they would hire you for the job. Another example would be if you were applying for an elite college or university and they were to search up your name and find an inappropriate picture from years before, it could affect there decision on whether or not to except you into there program. A digital footprint would be very important for jobs in the future.

Next I will talk about some different strategies on keeping your digital footprint safe and appropriate. Unfortunately not everything people post or comment on the internet is appropriate or kind. In order to keep your accounts safe it is generally a good idea to make any social media accounts private. That way you can monitor who comments on your pictures and who can see what you post. Another way to keep your digital footprint safe is to always think before you post or comment something on the internet. Could this comment affect your future? Will you regret saying this later? Also, when you post projects, assignments or positive and supportive comments, you are leaving an appropriate safe and respectful digital footprint on the internet.

Lastly, I learned that your digital footprint could have a huge impact on your future it could affect what university you are accepted into or if you will be hired for your dream job. I learned that you should always stop and think before posting or commenting anything on the internet because you never know who might see it. Another piece of advice would be to always be kind and supportive on the internet, you want to show who you really are, not just someone hiding behind a screen. Your digital footprint could have a big impact on you now or in the future so make sure that you are monitoring what you post online and what other people post about you.
