luminary process post

for my luminaries, i decided to do a meteor with a trail of fire made out of other smaller balls. all of the balls are going to be made out of clay. for It to give out light I’m going to have to cut holes in it, but I’m also thinking of maybe doing little cracks in the main part of the meteor to show it breaking as it is falling as another option to give out light.

the main purpose and the story behind the meteor is supposed to be a ball of light hitting a dark area and filling it up with light. its representing the feeling you get when someone unexpectedly comes into your life and just lightens you up and makes you happier, as if they are filling up a piece of your heart that used to be empty with a presence that you enjoy and want to have around you. i chose a meteor to show the unexpected aspect of it.

i don’t have any process pictures of it yet because i haven’t started on it, but i will add some next week when i actually start of the meteor.

Mask Process

I finished my mask. I got the effect I was looking for, and I think it looks pretty good. it is supposed to represent the two sides to my personality, tired/sad on one side and happy on the other. I thought I was going to paint it with acrylics, but nearing the end of the due date, I thought it would look nicer if I used under glaze instead.

I also decided to use clear glaze over it to give it that shiny look, for the added effect.

Mid term project update

Oct 29, 2021

continuing my school bus, I decided to make it into kind of a story in some way. it was originally meant to be a regular school bus, but thinking more about it I decided to restart and turn it into the magic school bus.

when I thought of this, I thought I would just add eyes and it would be done, but I wanted to tell more of a story, so I restarted it and made the actual bus really small. I then made a pretty realistic sized apple, and made the story be of the magic school bus shrinking, like it does in the cartoon, and have it go inside the banana as if the teacher is showing the kids how nutritious or how a fruit is shaped or look like on the inside.

I’m still working on it but I think it is going to end up looking really nice. next week I am going to try and finish all the walls and attach them together using slip.

Mask painting

for my practice mask, I think I will use an underglaze instead of acrylic, the reason being I think I will use underglaze on my face mask too so I want to use this as practice for my main project.

I’m actually really happy with the way my main mask is turning out, I still need to finish the eyes, eyebrows, and hair but overall I think its starting to take shape. I really want to make something that I can take home and actually put it on my desk or something instead of smashing it to pieces on the ground just for the fun of it, like I do with most of my other projects.
