5 best Taylor Swift songs to listen to when you’re going through a breakup.

It’s true Taylor Swift writes a lot about breakups and heartbreaks, you can complain about it all you want but when it comes to be your turn to get your heart broken, the best songs to cry over are those of Taylor Swift, without a doubt.

She has a variety of breakup songs, because obviously all breakups are completely different and that’s why it’s easy to fall down the rabbit hole. Whether you’re entirely shattered and miserable or if you’re furious and bitter, you’ll be able to find something of your liking somewhere in her discography. I’m no stranger to Taylor Swift songs so, here are her top 5 best breakup songs for when you’re never ever getting back together.

“Last Kiss” – Speak Now

Last Kiss, the thirteenth song on her third album Speak Now, is the perfect song for an imperfect breakup. Reminiscing is a key part of all breakups, whether it was sad or angry, it’s common to be constantly going back to that time in your life. This song is able to perfectly articulate how strong that nostalgic sadness can be.

“I never thought we’d have a last kiss. Never imagined we’d end like this. Your name, forever the name on my lips”

But above all, this song demonstrates how it feels to have that last moment with someone who you thought would be there forever. The moments that felt like they would never end are the ones that hurt the most. The melancholy is strong in this song, it’s the literal definition of the longing for what once was but will never be again.

“The Story Of Us” – Speak Now

The Story Of Us is the complete opposite of the fairy tale ending everyone hopes for. Being the seventh song on her third album Speak Now, this song gives us all the feels that a breakup should. Swift is able to explain the other side of relationships; the fighting, the miscommunication, the walls that are impossible to take down, all of it. The love that you wanted so badly to work, but deep down you knew it never would, is what this song is all about.

“But you held your pride like you should have held me. Oh, I’m scared to see the ending, why are we pretending this is nothing?”

Bitterness is a common emotion to feel when going through a breakup and this song is no stranger to it. Messy breakups are no fun, but the songs you listen to, to help you get over it can be. With the fast beat and several electric guitar solos, you’ll forget all about that person that tore you apart and you’ll be turning the page to the next chapter after no time.

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” – Red (Taylor’s Version)

We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together speaks for itself really. The eighth song on her fourth album, Red (Taylor’s Version), gives it all away in the title. This song is another about the bitterness and the sheer confidence that the relationship was a waste and that the decision to end it was the only option. Swift explains the struggle of a one-sided relationship where it’s obvious only one person is putting in the work and that it’s not going to work because of that.

“Then you come around again and say ‘Baby, I miss you and I swear I’m gonna change, trust me’. Remember how that lasted for a day?”

Leaving a relationship because you know you aren’t gaining anything from it is hard but having to deal with the annoyance of being with someone who doesn’t care is even harder. That’s why this song will have you feeling in control.

“Forever & Always” – Fearless (Taylor’s Version)

Forever & Always, the eleventh song on her second album Fearless (Taylor’s Version) is a perfect description of the angry and confused emotions you feel when someone leaves. When one second it was perfect and the next, they’re out the door, the betrayal stings. Swift sings about putting your complete trust in someone because you fully believe everything they say and then they’re gone without an explanation.

“Baby what happened? Please tell me cause one second it was perfect, now you’re halfway out the door”

This song is for when you feel like screaming your lungs out, or even for when you’re just sitting there wondering why. Trying to pinpoint the moment when it all went wrong but you’re too blinded by the anger, this song encompasses it all. The frustration she covers when trying to figure out why the relationship won’t be forever and always is why this song is a top breakup track.

“Sad Beautiful Tragic” – Red (Taylor’s Version)

Sad Beautiful Tragic is the classic breakup ballad. The twelfth song on her fourth album Red (Taylor’s Version) is a sad one, it makes you want to sit and stare at the wall while reminiscing. This song is about the breakups that hurts the most because you wanted so badly for it to have worked out, but it was better for everyone involved that it didn’t.

“Distance, timing, breakdown, fighting, silence, the train runs off its tracks […] What a sad beautiful tragic love affair”

Looking back on a relationship with a different perspective and a clear mindset and realizing that it was beautiful when it when it happened but that it was never meant to last is a sign of maturing. It leaves you longing for that tragic love that made a huge impact on you that maybe you hadn’t noticed before. This song is the saddest of all sad songs.

Breakups are hard, no matter what position you’re in when it ends, it’s difficult to erase that person from your life. Luckily, listening to breakup songs that explain your exact situation can make you feel like you’re not alone and that makes all the difference. Hopefully these songs will help you out of whatever slump you might be in and onto the next chapter of your life where you’ll find the place you were meant to be.

It’s common knowledge that Taylor Swift has a song for every occasion, most of society is well aware. A song for every boy she’s ever dated, and every friendship that has ever done her wrong, every happy memory she can recall, she’s got it all.

Luckily for all those hopeless romantics out there, Taylor Swift is an expert when it comes to love. As a die-hard Swiftie myself, I can confirm that Swift is one of the top songwriters to accurately capture what it’s like to be completely and irrevocably enamoured. In honour of that, I’m going to give you the top 5 Taylor Swift songs to listen to when you’re feeling all those romantic butterflies. There’s no other way to assure you’ll be wonderstruck and blushing all the way home.

“Lover” – Lover

Lover is the standard when it comes to romance. Being the third song on her seventh album Lover, Swift is able to perfectly explain what it’s like to feel that ease and comfort that you do when you’re with someone who has your heart locked down. That sense of calm and familiarity that allows you to be your true self with a romantic partner is all enclosed within this song.

“Can I go where you go? Can we always be this close forever and ever?”

She writes about the ability to completely lose yourself in love, to be the hardest rock that become soft at the touch of the person who knows you best. Lover is the perfect song for that innocent and long-lasting love that I hope everyone gets to experience at least once in their lifetime.

“Enchanted” – Speak Now

Enchanted, the ninth song on her third album, Speak Now, is a song all about the excitement of falling in love. The first interaction, you know, that giddy feeling at the thought of this new relationship flourishing into something beautiful. Enchanted recites the story of two people that meet and have an immediate connection.

“I’m wonderstruck, blushing all the way home, I’ll spend forever wondering if you knew, I was enchanted to meet you”

It’s very easy to visualize all the innocent and pure romantic feelings that you feel when meeting a potential love interest. This song makes you want to clutch it close to your heart as you jump up and down squealing.

“Stay Stay Stay” – Red (Taylor’s Version)

Stay Stay Stay, the ninth song on her fourth album Red (Taylor’s Version) is the perfect song to dedicate to a lover. It’s a song describing the struggles you have to face before you find the one. Being so sure that you’re finally with the person you were destined to be with that no matter the challenges, you two will always come out stronger on the other side.

“But you carry my groceries and now I’m always laughing. And I love you because you have given me no choice but to stay, stay, stay”

Love should be easy, and this song explains perfectly just how easy it can be. The fun beat emphasizes the joy and the playfulness that’s felt in a love so strong there really is no other choice but to stay. This one is for those who always believe it’ll work out.

“Paper Rings” – Lover

Paper Rings is the definition of being so in love you’d give up all your shiny things just to marry them with paper rings. The eighth song on her seventh album, Lover, is where its at. It’s important to have valid standards but when it comes to small things, sometimes you just can’t help but push them aside. Paper Rings is all about a love so strong and long-lasting that the journey it took for you to fall in love doesn’t matter because you’re together now.

“Darling, you’re the one I want, and I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this”

Paper Rings is for those who give and want 100% in a relationship. The ones who fall deeply and passionately in love, the ones who enjoy being attached at the hip. The ones who want it all in a relationship, the bumps, the bruises, all of it. Not needing any fancy things as long as you’re with your person is this song in a nutshell.

“You Are In Love” – 1989 (Deluxe edition)

You Are In Love speaks for itself really. The fifteenth song on her fifth album, 1989, but only found on the deluxe edition, is for the fans of the friends to lovers trope. The slow burn with the obvious connection from the start. Taylor uses perfect descriptions to give a detailed image of what it’s like to realize you are in love. That heart stopping moment when everything adds up and it can only mean one thing.

“You can hear it in the silence, silence, you can feel it on the way home, way home, you can see it with the lights out, light out. You are in love, true love”

This song is for all those who have felt that revelation, whether it was subtle or maybe even life altering, the moment you realize you are in love is definetly song-writing worthy. This song paints a perfect picture of the build up to the moment you are changed forever.

Love can be complicated and fragile, but it can also be exciting and refreshing, just as Swift is able to demonstrate in her writing. The songstress’ ability to create music that fully encompasses it all, is what makes her such a remarkable artist. Her songs will continue to resonate for many reasons, especially if it’s when falling in love. Whether it’s a reoccurring feeling or if it’s something brand new, these songs will convince you that love is golden like daylight, even if you thought it was burning red.

Classy Classics – Little Women

Little Women

Louisa May Alcott

Most would find reading the classics stressful, and I totally agree to an extent. Most classics are big and heavy and just so hard to get through. It almost feels like more and more weight is being added onto your shoulders after every page you turn. Luckily, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott is a lot more digestible for readers of all ages. It does have some dark parts, but it’s explained in a way that doesn’t scar you forever. I read Little Women when I was around thirteen and I haven’t been able to shut up about it since. Not only because I relate to it so much as the second in a family of four daughters with a father who was absent enough that the mother had to work overtime but also because the story is just so unforgettable.

Little Women follows the lives of four sisters with various ages and personalities but all equally relatable and loveable. From navigating love, friendship and, sisterhood to money issues, illness and grief, Little Women has it all. It’s told from the perspective of Jo, the second daughter, who I find myself relating to the most. She tells the story in an engaging and addictive manner that has you rooting for all the characters throughout the whole book. Each character is loveable and memorable. That’s one key point about why I love this book. Characters are such an important part in all storytelling and for authors to create, not only one, but multiple relatable characters, is a remarkable achievement. Little Women is one with many characters, that when reading about, feels like you’re looking in a mirror. No matter who you are or who you consider yourself to be, I guarantee you can find traces of yourself hidden throughout the story.

The overall plot is amazing too, it doesn’t focus too much on just one genre, no, instead there’s a variety of paths the book follows. It has romance, found family, coming of age, sisterhood and more. It teaches lessons that everyone can learn from and utilize in their day to day lives. I personally love the romance aspect of this book; it had my heart both breaking and soaring many times in between those pages. The way Louisa May Alcott portrayed the emotions being felt by the characters was so descriptive, it made me feel like I was there living the moment.

Another fun thing about this book is that it has been adapted into several movies, the most recent one having come out in 2019 and starring many familiar faces, such as Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Timothée Chalamet, Emma Watson, Meryl Streep and more. I am fully up to date with the book vs movies debate but when it comes to Little Women, I am completely unbiased because I think this recreation was amazing. Both the actors and the directors did an exceptional job in recreating the legendary book and it’s made me fall in love with the story all over again.

So, to wrap things up, there’s a clear reason as to why Little Women is a classic and why it will continue to be a classic come a long time. This book made a mark on me when I was thirteen and even though that was a mere four years ago, I still feel like it’s been apart of me forever. To all readers looking to read the classics but don’t know where to start or if you’re simply looking for a new book; I highly recommend Little Women.
