Reason For Choosing Topic:

I tried a few other topics before this one and found that they didn’t really work and that I couldn’t display it in a way that I found was creative or fun. So, I chose the topic of death. I also find it quite interesting. Another reason I wanted to do this topic is because while brainstorming visual ideas, I thought of the way to display Heart Disease and Cancer and figured that there could be similar ways to convey everything else through metaphors/symbols.

Self Reflection:

Paper Planes – Kenya and Julie

WikiHow disappointed us big time. At first, we used the plane on the left. According to WikiHow, this design would ensure us great distance and a successful flight. Unfortunately, we were left quite disappointed with our creation as it left us with inaccurate results. After we reflected on this design, with half an hour left, we decided to redo the experiment with the plane on the right. Our project was based off of weight. We experimented to discover what affect weight would have on the distance in which the plane flies. A google site explained that with more weight, there will be more distance. Julie and I proved that to be true during the second round of trials. Our results the first time stated that the least weight went the farthest, the middle weight went the shortest, and the heaviest was in the middle. Looking at these results, it was confusing. We also knew that the plane was having a really hard time flying and that I had a hard time getting it to go straight, thus we decided to do another round. In our second round, the lightest had the least weight, the midde weight was in the middle and the heaviest went the farthest. We were quite satisfied with these results and we had no regrets in doing a second round with the minimal time that was had left for class. Overall, we learned that the design of a plane is quite significant and we learned which design is superior, as well as how to properly distribute additional weight (paperclips).

Desmos Art Functions Card 2021

This is my Functions Card project! The picture on the bottom is a picture that I traced and shaded using functions! This is based off the picture on the above, if it isn’t obvious. I think that it was really interesting to watch it all come together, even though it was quite time consuming. I found out which equations to use by thinking about which type of shape I needed and how to best fit it in. Then, by doing the math, or some guessing and checking for some more minor details, I had equations to best fit my reference photo. A challenge I had was time and motivation. This project was taxing, I will say that. When I needed help, I asked my friends and teacher for help. They were all a huge help and my time was a lot easier thanks to them. A strategy I used was when I had two shapes that were similar, I’d copy and paste the formula and just make minor alterations. This assignment helped me further understand functions and graphing and what happens when you use certain formulas. It also helped me learn to shade better because there was lots of that to do. Overall, I am very proud of my work and I like how it turned out.

Indigenous Podcast – “Drowned?”

I made a podcast about a Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s case for a woman named Beatrice Adam. My podcast goes into detail about her story. I apologize for my stuttering, I am not the most clear speaker and that was one of the challenges I faced throughout the making of this podcast. Something else I struggled with at first was learning to use the program Audacity to create my work. Luckily, I got the hang of it quickly. Overall, I learned a lot in this experience and am glad to have taken part in this project. Not only did I learn more about some of the obstacles First Nations Peoples face, but also how to make a decent podcast.
