My poem “These people” is based of the theme from “The absolute true diary of a part time indian” by Sherman Alexie. It is a blackout poem I got from the text of the story “The fault in our stars” by John green and the original text can be found on the very begging page of chapter 22 in the book. The theme of “The absolute true diary of a part time indian” is about a boy struggling with his Identity and not really having somewhere to fit in. The boys’ only place or “sanctuary” is at home with his family where even after he started to go to a new school he lost the comfort. Its about a boy dealing with “these people” and how he can truly coexist with them.
I have written out my poem again just because the font on the one note is very tiny and I didn’t want the lines to become to confusing.
Exposed, Empty
I watched all these people pass me
Hollowed like being stabbed
Unattended, just me
Absolutely plasticized
I didn’t fit
Present confidence
These people watching only me
the silver lining, my sanctuary
Courageous, I tried not looking back
Heartbroken
I don’t hear comforting joy
I convince myself that tragedy haunted me
Here is a screenshot of my second poem as well based on the intangible vs tangible theme from “A midsummer nights dream” this poem was taken from the text of the novel “Wonder” on page 1
Awesome – both poems are great. visually, I like the yellow under the black!
