The Sea Devil Questions

The Sea Devil

1- The man prefers to fish at night. He likes to be alone with the smell of the saltyness and the sound of the water. What is significant is that the man doesn’t fish often, he seems to have not a lot of experience at all. Especially fishing at night, alone, in the pitch dark with only your ears and a small flash light can be guiding. So many things could go completely wrong in his situation.

2-When the man saw the school of sardines swim under his boat. When he notices he catches a sting ray and not a mullet. When he kept his eye out for the oily swirls.

3- The complicating incident was when the man decided he wouldn’t cast his net until he sees two swirls. This choice affects him in the future. A crises that happened was when the man was holding onto his rope to hard and got yanked into the water by the sea devil. The climax was when the mans rope tat was tangling him underwater finally broke because some barnacles were sawing the rope. He got free and out of the water away from the sea devil safe and sound.

5-The man releases the mullet he previously caught because he knows how it feels to be hateopeless. He doesn’t want a creature in his position.

6- “the night was breathless” A metaphor and personification

“Looking into the blank eyes of death” Personifacation

“He felt the razor sharp barnacles bite into his hand” Simile

A Mountain Journey Quotes

A Mountain Journey Questions

A Mountain Journey-

1. Dave Conroy was a trapper. He decided to travel threw north B.C to support his hobby. Looking for animal hyde he is sure to face bigger worries than just fur.

2. When Dave fell in the air hole he knew once he got out he should dry his mittens and socks to keep him somewhat warm. He clearly is dead set on his journey, he isn’t even concerned about his own health.

3. Several times he noticed a good place to rest and regain his energy but he doesn’t stop at all. Somewhere safe he should be attracted too. He isn’t phased about good choices he could of made witch is sad because he could of survived.

4. The plot was all based on Dave’s mistakes he made throughout his journey. The exposition and my theory was Dave was not going to survive due to him not caring about his health. The complicating incident was when Dave decided to take a rest in the snow when he couldn’t feel his fingers or feet. Never a good idea. The three crises that happened were when Dave fell in the air hole and soaked his mittens and socks. When Dave arrived at his ideal location only to find out the place he was exited to be warm in was burnt to the ground. And the saddest crises was when Dave Conroy passed in the northern bc mountains.

5. The setting is in the cold month February up in the tower high mountains located in Northern BC. The setting was how Dave passed away.

6. “The pain in his shoulders was the only reality of his existence and his body was no more than the shape of agony”

The Friday That Everything Changed Questions

Comprehension:

1- The boys were upset of the idea of the girls carrying the water bucket because it was a privilege that the boys liked to call theirs. They don’t like the idea of girls getting the same things as they do.

2- What the boys did to Alma was disgustingly rude. They would throw notes onto her desk constantly. Written on them were nasty messages from threats to pulling down her pants in front of people or giving her a bloody nose. Alma wasn’t phased that the boys were being disrespectful. She minded herself and did what she had to do.

Elements of Friction:

3- The narrator of the story is Alma’s seat mate. She has been explaining the story.

4- The setting of this story is older times. The school is very small and old and there aren’t many children. For water for the kids 2 kids would need to walk to the train station and get water from a pump and fill up the bucket they carry with them  back to the school for the softball team.

5- The protagonist of the story is Alma Niles. Shes the one who brought up the idea of the girls carrying the water bucket. Doing so, she put herself up against the boys witch could be a difficult situation for Alma and her friends.

6- Ms.Ralston showed the boys that girls can do things just as well as the boys maybe even better. She showed equality towards the girls side witch was needed to show the boys that they need to behave. She wanted to show the girls they are all the same and all deserve to be treated right.
