Circle Talk

I think that oral and aural communication can be as or more affective as writing down answers to questions on a piece of paper. It’s especially useful when the person who is talking to you understands you as a human and you can relate to them. It’s much easier that way because there are different ways of learning, and when there is someone else to explain things in a way that you will understand, there’s more of a chance that you will absorb the information. It doesn’t even have to be for educational purposes. It could also just be learning about the world and humans in general by noticing how we act as a group. This connects to the communication core competency as well.

I think that the main thing that got us to know each other better in the circle was just learning everyone else’s names. It’s the first step to getting to know anyone, and I didn’t know everyone’s names before the circle. I thought that it built a stronger community in the room because when we had to tell everyone our embarrassing stories, we had to trust each other. It was generally a good exercise that helped us become a bit closer as a class, and I’m happy we got the chance to do it.
