Coaster – Khalid
- – Coaster is about Khalid (the artist) who would do anything for his “lover”. Although she still left him and he was left heartbroken.
- Khalid was left heartbroken after his girl left him, she was always on his mind and she never left his everyday thoughts.
- – The person who is speaking is Khalid (the artist)
- He is speaking to his ex-lover whom he is still deeply in love with.
- He was in a very sad state in his life, he is trying to find closure but his feelings for her are too strong.
- – Many of the words are abstract, meaning they have many other meanings. “searching for peace is covering up the holes” Khalid is not talking about literally holes. Khalid is talking about how empty his life is without her.
- The poem has a couple clichés, one of them being “ill throw all of my cares away for you, ill be there to wait for you” he would do anything for her to be his everything.
- “coasting’” is a big word in this song because it represents Khalid’s emotions after his breakup with his girl. “coastin’ through my emotions”
- – The poem is serious because it is about the hard breakup Khalid went through and his feelings afterward.
- “as time passes I feel so low” Khalid obviously feel very upset in this song. “maybe you weren’t the one for me, but deep down I wanted you to be.” Here, he is taking about his wants and how he’s not able to feel happy.
- During the beginning of the song it starts off at a very sad start, the sadness remains the same throughout the song, although the tone is very happy.
- – The line length is around one sentence. It includes around two pyrric’s in one sentence.
- A stanza in this song is around 6- 7 lines.
- The rhyme scheme goes a bit like this: ABC, CDD, ABC, CDD, although this rhyme scheme only appears in one or two stanzas’.
- This song is a mix of open and closed poetry, in many parts if follows the rhyme scheme.
- – This song lyrics make it seem like Khalid would do anything to be with her again. The lyrics are very exaggerated.
- “As time walks passed me I feel so low” time does not walk, instead he is trying to say that time is going by.
- A better title would be “I miss you” coastin’ just doesn’t fit the story line because he is going through a time where he misses his girl and wants her back.
- I felt very moved by this song, it touched me personally and took me into the feelings of the artist. He has expressed his feelings very clearly into words.
- He explained the story of the his love life, how it ended, and what he would have done for her.
