STEP 1:  Determine what you will be arguing (which side do you have stronger evidence for?)

STEP 2:  Write your introduction paragraph.  First introduce the idea (immigration) and the time period (1815-1914) and why immigration is important to Canada’s history.  End with your thesis statement (refer back to the essay prompt:  “From 1815-1914 Canada encouraged and welcomed immigrants from around the world”)

STEP 3:  Counter argument paragraph (Body 1):  introduction sentence, use evidence to build argument, conclusion sentence

STEP 4:  Thesis paragraph (Body 2):  introduction sentence, use evidence to build argument, conclusion sentence

STEP 5:  Conclusion paragraph.  Restate the topic of the essay and the differing view points.  Re-state your thesis.  End with an idea to intrigue the reader
