Writing types
a) In your own words, what are the four writing types?
The four types of writing include narrative, persuasive, descriptive, and expository. An example of someone using narrative writing is when they are telling a story from the character’s perspective. Someone using persuasive writing is making statements of why it’s bad for you or good. Descriptive is using lot of descriptive words like the desk felt really heavy and one thing it’s used in is poetry. Expository is when someone is explain steps to something like when you are looking at a textbook or recipes.
b) After reading the comic, “Represent,” by Christian Cooper, which writing type would this be categorized under?
The comic series Represent ” It’s a bird” by Christian Cooper shows us narrative, persuasive, and expository writing because there is a story being told by the author that is telling about a boy that is bird watching and sees the victims of racism. The author wants us to learn from this story that it’s bad to judge people by their skin color.
c) What is the comic showing us?
We should change how we act around black people and realize what we did was wrong. We should judge them by how they look and talk to them like what you would say to your family or friends not being rude like how the lady and the man talked harshly at Jules (the main character).
What is New Media?
New media
New media is an online way of communicating with someone on the internet. An example is someone using Facebook. The difference between traditional media and new media is that in traditional media a person doesn’t interact with someone like on the news or the radio. New media isn’t just Facebook or Twitter, it can be when people are on apps, when students need to email their teachers, etc.
Fragmented media consumption means the way a person consume their media time like someone using their phone to listen to music or just looking on Facebook or even texting their friend to tell them something important. People spend about 12 hours a day with those different types of media and those people tend to consume that media to support their existing views but it can tend to lead people to false beliefs which turns out bad for them. There is even some evidence that leads up to how people look at media. Try to see if the media is accurate and not an opinion which is not always true. Use these methods when looking to see if the source is reliable or not.
- Look to see if the website has been submitted for an ownership
- The information has the same information on other websites
- The created sources have been recently created
- Date of the page/ when it was published to see if it was changed or not
- The author of the information
- See if the info is something you learned before and see if it matches up
- Try to use your common sense when looking at the article.
