Action Project

My Action Project for Social Justice 12:

Challenges and obstacles I’ve faced:

Having employees forget to mention the fundraiser

Having customers who are un-interested in buying the cookies

Not selling the cookies and having to throw them out (loss of money)

Accidentally over-cooking the cookies

PERSONAL REFLECTION:

I feel less guilty in a way after completing this project. Learning about all the issues going on in the world and the main injustices in this class I began to feel guilty for doing nothing to help while living my safe and happy life here. After completing this project I feel less guilty, in that, I did do something to help and may have even inspired people to do something, especially since many don’t know about injustices until introduced by others. Lastly, I feel happy that a child who is in a war-torn country and is discouraged from getting an education is passionate enough to. At times it will be hard to continue if you have nothing to work with, so helping so many girls and providing them with something to work with makes me happy.

I will continue to be an advocate for social justice by always donating to any Afghan fundraisers when asked, continuing to educate myself on other issues besides Afghanistan, and most likely re-do my fundraiser sometime for Afghanistan or another place facing injustice.

Write up:

After reading the extraordinary novel “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng, my novel study group (Christina, Patrick, Jordana, and Savanah) and I created a theme park based off of it along with an encouraging brochure. When creating our theme park, Shaker Frights, I contributed by designing 3 the of the main characters as well as positioning them a place in the theme park regarding their personality. Giving controlling Elena a job as head of security, artistic Mia an art gallery, and rebellious Izzy a spontaneous ride to take control of I used the novel to bring our theme park to life. Designing a theme park with my group was a creative way to put together our perspectives on the novel. Doing this project, I pulled out the main events and ways in which the characters behaved to reflect and gain a stronger understanding of their characteristics. Using my communication competency to connect and engage with others, and my creative and critical thinking to generate, develop, and design ideas I was able to create a section of the theme park.

What Darwin Never Knew

What Darwin Never Knew

In our Bio class today we watched a documentary about Charles Darwin and his journey of learning about evolution. When watching this documentary we heard about Charles’s theory: Evolution happens by natural selection. Which was later proven through the discovery of DNA. After watching the video we were then asked three questions. “How did the discovery of DNA prove that Darwin’s theory of evolution was correct? And “How does it change the way we view evolution today and into the future?”

As Darwin studied evolution he saw that the creatures that survived were the ones that were adapted best to the environment in which they lived. Darwin said that evolution happens by natural selection which is when living things have a better chance of survival based on the traits that they have. Darwin provided us with the basic building blocks for a better understanding of evolution.

  1. How did the discovery of DNA prove that Darwin’s theory of evolution was correct?

When DNA is mutated or there is variation it allows for offspring to inherit different traits.
