Write up:

After reading the extraordinary novel “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng, my novel study group (Christina, Patrick, Jordana, and Savanah) and I created a theme park based off of it along with an encouraging brochure. When creating our theme park, Shaker Frights, I contributed by designing 3 the of the main characters as well as positioning them a place in the theme park regarding their personality. Giving controlling Elena a job as head of security, artistic Mia an art gallery, and rebellious Izzy a spontaneous ride to take control of I used the novel to bring our theme park to life. Designing a theme park with my group was a creative way to put together our perspectives on the novel. Doing this project, I pulled out the main events and ways in which the characters behaved to reflect and gain a stronger understanding of their characteristics. Using my communication competency to connect and engage with others, and my creative and critical thinking to generate, develop, and design ideas I was able to create a section of the theme park.

Wonder Project

At the start of term 2 in our science class, we had the opportunity to write down any question we wondered about enough to research and create a project for. My interest went directly towards oceans since I fear them which brought me towards the question “How would humans adapt to survive on an earth without oceans?” If this question made you just as curious as I was, then below is the info-graphic to give you a brief idea of just how.

                     Information Fluency Questions

1) What questions did you need to research in order to research your topic?

The questions I needed to research in order to research my topic were: How much space on Earth is taken up from oceans? How does the ocean cool down the Earth? How do oceans impact our weather? How would weather change without oceans? How long could humans stay alive? and many definitions to scientific words.

2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

While working through this project I used Piktochart to create an infographic, Youtube to learn more about oceans, and google to find definitions and quick information, these were all tools that I have previously used and am familiar with. Some new tools I was able to use would be pexels, the Gale library database, and the ability to cite my pages through a word document, these two helped make a big percentage of my project and were very helpful, I am looking forward to using them more since they were easy and helpful.

3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic?

Like any process there were challenging and easy times, a few challenging times would be working with Piktochart to find the perfect template to use with the right text boxes and shades of colours that would have fit in. The easiest part from the process of my investigation was using gale, it provides many reliable information sources that can easily be found by searching the keyword of your main topic.

4) How did you verify and cite the information you found?

I verified the information I found by checking if it had a date of publication, an author, if there was references from what they put in their article, as well as checking the bibliographies. I cited the information I found by clicking a button that said “cite information” which gave all the data I needed once I copied and pasted it. If that option wasn’t available I would link the page I got the information from.

5) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?

The process of completing this challenge I would say was long it dragged on for months and stayed as a reminder and worry to finish for a long time. Somethings I would like to do have done better would be using time in class wisely and trying to focus more, getting little chunks done so it isn’t piled up, and trying to get it done much earlier so I would only worry about adding finishing touches near the due date.
