Me In The Mirror:
Artist Statement:
Me in the Mirror is a clay mask made to represent all aspects of me, especially the hidden parts.
The right side of the mask is an average face, with a butterfly to represent my social and outgoing side. I like to represent myself as someone who has a stress-free perfect life.
The left side has all the different aspects that make a big part of me. For example, there is a flag of Afghanistan, to represent where I have come from, along with scars to represent imperfections on my skin. At a young age, I burnt my hand which left me with scars that I see and hate on daily.
This mask shows what I see once I go home after a long day and look in the mirror at how I have “been” all day compared to how I feel. This is why I have my mask in two because there are two completely different sides of me.
