Community Connection

community connections project 2022

The person i chose to interview is Darcy Michael. Darcy Micheal is a  Canadian actor and comedian, at the moment he is probably best known for being an influencer on TikTok but in his words he calls it an “accidental influencer”. Darcy is a big mental health advocate and is an  influencer that has made positive impact on the community. He is best known for his roles on Spun out, Rapture Palazzo, and Lucifer. along with his own stand up comedy shows.

I choose to interview Darcy for his content and the positivity he brings to the community, I also could see myself potentially going into the film industry one-day. If you check out his page or google one of his shows he generally brings smiles to peoples faces and I think that is incredible. my favourite ting he said in the interview shown below was “I love hearing people laugh or seeing that my message is bringing someone joy. You never forget how someone made you feel, so I can only hope that I made people feel nice.”. and I think that is a important message to share.

interview

1. Can you explain your roles and responsibilities with your current position?
My name is Darcy Michael, I’m an actor, comedian and accidental influencer on social media. My day to day life is quite flexible depending on my project load but here’s an example of life lately. I just finished filming an episode for a new series for cbs in winnipeg that had me commuting between vancouver and winnipeg. While this was happening we were also shooting campaigns for Doordash, Amazon, Pair eyewear and a few others so my time at home when not filming the show was quite busy filming ads on top of our regular content that we try to post daily on tiktok and instagram. All in all, we’re keeping busy just trying to spread a little joy around in a time that we need it the most. Our main message is always trying to talk positively about mental health.
2. What obstacles have your face to get where you are today?
I have adhd, something I was diagnosed late in life with so naturally it has been a constant struggle for me to maintain focus on deadlines and projects. I would say I am my biggest obstacle – so finding ways to keep myself interested is important.
3. What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you were doing?
I would say to just start doing it – that’s how I did it. Whether it be stand up or tiktok, both just started organically because I wanted to try it and as I got more experience I got better at both. Things take time, you’re going to be awful at something until you learn more about it, so forgive yourself for the fails because truth be told, failing is the best thing you can ever do for yourself and your career.
4. Why are you passionate about your job or role?
I love the response my comedy brings – I love hearing people laugh or seeing that my message is bringing someone joy. You never forget how someone made you feel, so I can only hope that I made people feel nice.
5. What lead you to where you are today?(why acting and comedy)
I dont really know to be honest, from as far as I can remember it’s just what I always knew I wanted to do.
6. What would you say to someone struggling with their mental health?
I would first off start by saying: you’re not alone and that it’s okay to not be okay. We have so many wonderful programs and places that someone can lean on when they need assistance and sometimes the hardest thing is just taking that first step in reaching out but please know, it’s the hardest step but once that’s done, you’re on the road to recovery. Be kind to yourself, forgive yourself and be patient with yourself.
