Aquatic field studies post
objective of our field study
The objective of our field study over the past week was to test the water quality of Coquitlam River and riversides oxbow pond. We spent multiple class learning about water quality and its impactful factors. This assignment connects to the first part of the unit which was the 4 spheres. There is atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere. The atmosphere is made up of all the gases that surround the Earth. We frequently refer to the atmosphere as “air.” The biosphere is comprised of all living things on Earth. The hydrosphere includes the oceans, rivers, lakes, groundwater, and glacial water. And The geosphere provides us with natural resources and a place to grow food.

the final analysis of the ponds water quality is good using the statistics provided, but it is right on the edge of being excellent.Conditions may deviate from ideal levels.
Water quality is protected by the presence of a slight impairment; conditions are close to pristine; these index values can only be obtained if all measurements meet recommended guidelines nearly all of the time. Supports a wide range of life. All forms of recreation, including direct contact, are permitted.

findings on invertebrate life (& other life observed)
What does the invertebrate community tell us about the health of the river?
Dragonflies are an excellent bio-indicator of water health (“bio” means “living indicator”). Their entire life is intricately linked to water, which means they require high water quality to reach adulthood.Measurement of biological indicators such as fish, invertebrates, and algae abundance and diversity is another tool we use to understand water quality in our streams and lakes. invertebrates are frequently used as bioindicators of water quality.
comparing our findings
They share some similarities and differences. For one thing, the majority of the organisms were discovered in the pond, but the main reason for the discovery of invertebrates was the Ruch of the river and the hole in the net. When we went to the wpond, however, it was much easier to collect specimens and we had a bucket full of life. However, pollution and water quality are to blame for these similarities and differences, as we already know that the water quality in both cases was good, if not excellent for the pond.
reflection
I found this field study to be a wonderful learning experience. the hands on experiences made learning fun and memorable. I learnt about water quality factors in the fish bone chart, and the different invertebrates found in coquitlam river and the riverside oxbow pond. its cool because I have spent years going to coquitlam river in the summer but never look close enough to see all of the live living and striving in the water.

define: our idea was to create a clean eco friendly power source that completely cancels out the use of petroleum fuel.
discover: in the past Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s promise to reduce Canada’s oil sector emissions starting in 2025 looks unlikely to slow the growth of crude production, environmental activists and oil companies say, raising questions about how effectively the pledge will help meet the country’s goals to slow climate change.
debrief: overall this project was well put together in my opinion the calibration for research as a group was a great environment, we troubleshooted as a group and we where able to bounce ideas off each other.
What effect does vinyl have on the environment?
What Questions did you research in order to research your topic?
- What is vinyl?
- What is a vinyl record made of?
- Where is it made?
- Is polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic banned in Canada?
- What heath effects does it have ?
- Is it toxic ?
- How can it be disposed safely ?
WHAT NEW OR FAMILIAR DIGITAL TOOLS DID YOU TRY TO USE AS YOU WORKED THROUGH THIS PROJECT?
To complete this project I used familiar digital tools such as the google search engine to research sub questions and finding reliable sources to put this project together I used powerpoint , which is my preferred way of sharing info through presentation.
what was the process you used to investigate the topic and how did you verify and cite in information you found?
When I was looking to answer my subquestions i used google to investigate, but to know the information I was gathering was true I would look into more than one source per question. I would also try to make sure that I was using well known websites that are verified. To cite my source my work I have a entire slide with all the sources I used on my power point.
how did the process of completing this challenge go? what could you have done better?
The process of completing this project went really well I found it to be very attention grabbing and loved what I learnt from my research. I could have added more questions to my research and with the time given that shouldn’t of been an issue but I feel that I put off starting this project too long and this is the result, I am still happy with what I accomplished but can’t help to with I did more.

For my initials I used a combination of vertical, horizontal, and slanted to move the degree of my lines ,I had to adjust the number of the equations until the lines aligned in the right way. at the beginning of this project I had a hard time with the equation and seeing where things would land once I put my numbers in but by the end of this lesson I figured out how to move the lines with no problems. I found this lesson to be helpful and I learnt how to place lines with proper equations.
