Collaboration Solution Fluency

Define

Our idea is a phone case that charges from the heat of the human hand. By simply holding your phone in your hand, it will begin to charge. It will not charge the phone, but rather a battery in the case that can be connected to the phone when you’re are running low on charge. It will work on the principle of thermoelectrical charge. There will also be a benefit in the higher your body heat is, the higher the current is, therefore the faster the battery charges. If you go for a run, it will charge faster than simply plugging it in and waiting so that could provide an incentive to exercise. This would be extremely helpful in a survival situation too because if you have an adapter, you could use the case to charge other devices. The case would run on a parallel circuit by having a plugin on the bottom that goes directly from the case into the phone. It would just be the battery going straight to the phone and storing remaining charge. It most likely would be a lithium ion battery that could store multiple charges for your phone.

Discover

This video shows the general idea of how our phone case would work. Our model would use body heat instead of fire and air instead of cold water. The premise of our device would be that the higher your body temperature was and the colder it was outside, the better the energy conversion would be.

Dream

Obviously, we can’t fit this gigantic on the back of a phone so we would want to micro size the technology and fit it into a phone case. Our eventual goal would be to end up with 100% energy reuse from the human body.

Deliver

We can’t actually make a prototype of this case right now because we lack the time, technology and funds, but I believe that it is entirely possible. We hope to build a thermal generator but since we might not be able to create one to demonstrate the premise, we might have to use a circuit instead.

  1. Thanks for explaining your innovation idea. It would be great to see solar powered charging cases become the norm. I appreciate you sharing your design and the embedded video to educate us on what a DIY thermoelectric generator could look like. I am excited to see how far you get with your innovation.
