Welcome to Directing + Scriptwriting 11/12

This course will be a unique combination of reading, writing, peer tutoring, research, creation and reflection. You will get to work independently, in small groups, with the Drama 9/10 class, with me, with Ms.Melchert and with Susan Bertoia (to help devise and define Project BLUE).

Our learning spaces must be socially just; you must refrain from negative or unsupportive behaviours.
Be aware of yourself, and others; brave and humble is a valued combination.
The language we use must be socially just, inclusive and respectful.
There will be many opportunities for creative choice, and you will often be required to find self-motivation. You will gain a better understanding of dramatic works and how they can influence or be influenced by social, cultural, environmental or personal contexts. Your communication skills will be tested, and honed. It is my hope that you will enjoy the opportunities here.
We will refer to both the Privilege Wheel and the First Peoples’ Principles of Learning in a continued effort to decolonize theatre practices.

Our first project: Wednesday night Feb. 5, 5:45pm – 7:30pm. YOU will be the expressive and costumed tour guides for Gr. 8 Parents’ Night. You are scripting and directing yourselves!

Our first play (to be read together): “Kamloopa” by Kim Senklip Harvey
