Lit Circle Final Project – “Title of Novel”

Expository Paragraph

The Moon of the Crusted Snow is a book about the community, society of first nation.” The setting of novel is winter, snowstorm of Northern Ontario “Anishinaabe”. The protagonist of the story is Evan Whitesky who is from Anishinaabe community. He has keeping the traditional exactly what they are, like haunting moose, conducting tobacco. Also, he always takes advice and honour from the ancestor. He is courageous, he and his friends had protected his community and their family, when their community encounters difficulties. He make sure the people will not be panic and be scared and life in stable life in. “Evan and Tyler line up 800 cans of ham and peas, ready to pass them out.” (Chapter 24) Until the antagonist Justin Scott has joined community. He was selfish, arrogance. He had seized power among a faction of the community after, he forces his followers to hunt for food but takes most of it for himself as the winter progresses.”Meghan blurts out that Scott is horrible, he orders them around and threatens them Megan’s husband, Brad has fallen under his spellHe seems to be getting bigger, while the rest of them are getting thinner.”(Chapter23). Ithas exposed the other side humanity of Scott. For the plot map I had chosen some image to represent the story. At the beginning, I choose the snowfall, power outage, and the sign of the Anishinaabe and people gathering picture. It symbolizes when the community people have reconnecting together, help each other. Second, I had chosen a picture that the store was empty. It symbolizes people start panic and scared, “inside the store: people are avoiding eye contact with one another grabbing everything they can. Most of the shelves are empty. Evan walks through the store, only few things left (Chapter) Third I choose a picture of a man and shaking hand it symbolizes Justin has joined to community, after he join, he was being selfish, and weird When “Evan asks if they stole a body. Scott replies that it’s a matter of survival. “(Chapter 30). Last, I had chosen a picture of something were moving out and a gun. It symbolizes Scott was killed by the community because of his selfish. also, most of the community people moving out because everything has change since the first day Scott has joined the community. They can’t really recovery or get back to their original lifestyle. The theme of the novel is Anishinaabe traditional, the community has reconnecting together, with their traditional knowledge. Still the community has ceased to exist because the members disconnected from own culture because of the technology. Second survival, the community people haunting moose. Last Society and Community people gathering and help each other, As more people join in responds to moments of strife or an outside threat or an internal threat. Also, I narrate two symbols. Sage and Tobacco it represents first nation people’s collective loss of their indigenous tradition, and the blackout symbolizes the oppression and trauma that first nation people have endured since European settlers colonized the America. Lastly, for the tone of the story it has move from light and humorous to serious and tragic.

Mind Map- ” A Private Experience”

Mind Map Paragraph

A Private Experience written by Chimananda Ngozi Adichie, the author wants to express two different characters even if they are from completely different countries, the relationship between different cultures, religious, ethnic that can create a bond. I had concluded my knowledge and interpretation of the story, and the highlight  eight main points in my mind map: including Author’s biographic, plot, setting, characterization, conflict, symbolism, point of view and the theme. To make me easier to comprehend to the story. We are able to see in the article the relationship between Chika and the Hausa women. These two women had caught up in a violent street forced to take shelter and the women has lead Chika to the safety place in an abandon store during the riot until is over, this show the a bond the connection. Also, the narrator has pass through and revolves around a religious conflict to indicate that the social values and stereotypes with the cultures we are all the same at the end of the day. For the characterization I choose two hands put together is represent the bond between Chika and the Hausa Muslim women. These two people both come from extremely different background, culture, and lifestyle, but no matter their religion, race, culture or wealth, they were still a able to be friends and have connection together. Also, the major symbol that make me more comprehend the story is the Hausa women’s scarf, this scarf is important for the woman. It symbolic the woman’s religion because it uses for prayer. Also, it represents the relationship the two women forges, despite their different religions and cultures. Also, the women were like a mother to Chika and care for her. When Chika left the store, women have reminded her that how it was dangerous, when Chika get hurt the woman did not hessite to help her. And Chika had helped her with her nipple issue back. So, I think this event is a regift from the women to Chika. From all the things happen that had subverted Chika stereotyped on the Muslim woman, instead of saying they were only bonded, they have become more like friends, helping and care each other. After I finish reading this article, I get to know more about the point of view of the story, it is third person limited Omniscient. Because I can see what Chaka’s thoughts in the story, like “Chika think she and her sister would not be involved in the riot. In her impress riot like this were what she read about in newspaper and were what happed to people.” However, there is not much of the Muslim women, what I see is her emotional express “The women wipe her eye with one end of her blouse. “For literary Criticism learn I had chosen to write biographical criticism, because I thing is important to if I want to understanding more about story I should do research and comprehend the author background. Lastly, I think the main theme of the story is the comparison between the countries and the relationship between cultures, religious ethic, because had mainly narrate different religion. If people have chosen to help each instead of having all the conflict, culture differences, racism. How can all be good to others.
