Self-Reflection On STUDIO ARTS 2D 11

Personally, I think art is a form of expression of beauty. And the responsibility of an artist is dare to innovate in the face of challenge, and to respect all forms of art and culture.

As an artist, I am trying to study in the field of Illustrator or Concept Designer and I plan to attend Emily Carr University of Art and Design for more study in the future.

I think I did the best in black and white sketch during this period of study. The assignment which I found most successful is the final one about Portraits in Profile. And the one which I found least successful is the oil painting during the study at school. Due to the impact of the Covid-19, I did not finish my final work, and I am also poor in color.

This is my first time having an online video learning at home,  because I am used to study at school, so all this was strange to me at first. I started the first class with curiosity, everything is organized and went smoothly. It was convenient to have classes at home, I can get more rest time which also made me feel more relaxed. I really like the innovative learning of online learning, where you can communicate on the Internet, and everything is new. However, online learning still has some influence on me, also a big challenge for me. Because my English is not very good, and sometimes I make mistakes in understanding. If I have problems in school classes, I can ask my classmates for help. I can also discuss and cooperate with my classmates to complete projects such as labs. Although we can communicate online right now, it’s not as direct as having a class at school. As I did not form the habit of timely checking computer messages in the past, I sometimes missed the messages released by teachers and the class time in this online learning process. In general, I think this study process is a good opportunity for me to correct my learning methods. I should participate in group discussions more often, ask more questions, and put more efforts into areas which I am not good at, so as to improve myself comprehensively.

My Personalities Jaosn Liu

My name is Jason Liu, and my personality type is an advocate. I am a friendly, optimistic and cautious person. Everyone has a certain understanding of themselves, but the real situation may be somewhat different from what we think. So that’s why we did this test. However, this test may not be accurate in some places. For example, an advocate is a passionate and mysterious personality. Their imagination and compassion make them a man who cherishes the integrity and deep-rooted principles of others. They can also turn their ideal into plans and execute them. The conflict is that, while I’m happy to help others and care about their feelings,  But in ideals and plans, I can only do the plan, but during realizing them, I always met all kinds of difficulties. So I finally chose to give up. The reason for that is I think everyone is different, there’s no perfect person, and this test just gives us a general idea of more understanding ourselves. In detail, it can’t cover all the areas of a person’s personality.

The Cycle
The hero broke through difficulties and finally ascended to the palace of the dragon.
He didn’t hesitate to cut off the head of the dragon.
In the face of the land of gold and silver treasure,
The hero did not waver his faith.
He came back victorious to the cheers of the people.
The hero gave all the treasures to them.
People have finally lived a happy life.
The hero had also gained people’s respect and high status.
But to his surprise,
With the disappearance of war and oppression,
Everything began to deviate from his expectations.
People were getting used to living in peace. And gradually forget the hero.
Instead became greedy and selfish.
He finally couldn’t stand it all.
He was determined to break the situation by anyways.
People became timid and cowardly under violence.
But things were finally back on track.
Over time,
People grew from fearing him to detest him.
After many years,
A young person was eyes firmly and started his dragon-slaughter journey.

 

The cycle is an ironic poem. Its theme is about Macbeth. The poem uses symbolism and metaphor, the dragon symbolizes the oppressor, the hero symbolizes the liberals, and the people symbolize the oppressed. It’s discussed the relationship between oppressors and liberals. Rights and desires can make people lose themselves. In line: “In the face of the land of gold and silver treasure.” and “The hero gave all the treasures to them.” The “treasure” symbolizes desire, but it can be seen that the hero did not bow to wealth. The line at the end of the poem: “A young person was eyes firmly and started his dragon-slaughter journey.” indicates that the original hero who fights for freedom has also become the dragon who is the oppressor. Heroes fight for the people and freedom, while oppressors consolidate their social status and order. It can be said that the existence of oppressors affects people, and if they are removed, society will become chaotic. There are no such good guys and bad guys to the backbone. Through the ages, countless dynasties have passed through. It was all going to start a cycle again.
