Week 14 in Math 10

This week in Math 10 we wrapped up the relations and functions unit and started learning about Slope. Slope is how you can describe a line by how far it runs on the x coordinate and how it rises on the y coordinate on a graph. The way you find slope is by using the formula Rise/Run (rise over run). To find the rise and run of a line you first need to find to “nice points” on a graph. In the picture to the above all the dots would be nice points. Notice how they are all at the intersection of to lines. Now you have to pick two of these points and see how much you have to rise and run but, make sure you always start with the nice point further two the left of the pair you have chosen. So in this example I will use 2, 4 and 3, 8. Then to find the rise go up or down along the y coordinate depending on where the next point is on the graph, if you go up the number will be positive, if you go down the number will be negative. Next to find the run go left or right along the x coordinate if you go right, it is positive and if you go left it is negative.

In these examples I start with 2, 4 and go up by 4 then I go 1 to the right. This would mean the slope would be would be 4/1 or 4.
