a) I am part of the creation team, which is planning to create a new Grade 8 Me video that is more insightful and full of advice for the upcoming grade 9s too. We had decided that the previous videos were not able to actually help any of the newcomers and even the grade 12s would mention that it sometimes felt like a waste of time putting the effort into making the video. Our plan is to use the critical feedback from previous years into making a video that will help the grade 9s to adjust to this school.

b) We may and probably will run into many problems. Primarily, we could have the problem of not being able to meet deadlines due to the lack of grade 12s willing to lend their opinions and suggestions, video technology issues, falling short of ideas, etc. Our plan was to prepare a “sign-up sheet” for grade 12s who want to volunteer into sharing their suggestions and advice, but the downside of this is that there may not be many seniors willing to share.

To complete this project, we need to ensure that members of the team are learning their video editing skills and visualizing the final outcome of the video. There are many video programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro, VSDC, even Movie Maker, and more. If we learn one of these programs, we will be able to at least make a video. We will also need to work on our communication skills because firstly, we need to communicate with seniors to share opinions for the upcoming grade 9s, but they cannot be false, inappropriate, or unnecessary. We would need to communicate effectively to ensure no time is wasted filming the seniors. Second, we also need to communicate effectively in the sense that the video cannot have any unimportant content. Since the attention span of the viewers will most likely be short, there is no reason in making a 15 minute video when in reality, the new students will only be watching for 5. Therefore, we need to create a video that can display the most info in the least time in the least boring manner.

c) Timeline of Creation Team

  •  Until winter break: Promo for video, find senior volunteers to lend opinions
  • January-February/March(?): Get Interviews (Better more than none)
  • March-April/May: Create video (Probably 3-6 minutes)
  • After Creating Video: Distribute to middle schools, to administration
  • If time, create more videos as needed
