In the prairies, the plants use photosynthesis to get rid of carbon in the air.
In the prairies, lots of fixed carbon is stored in the roots of plants. When/if the plant dies some of the roots stay in the dirt for hundreds of years aa organic carbon humus. The soil acts as a “carbon sink”
Causes of climate change
In the prairies, there are many droughts because the temperatures are rising and the soil is drying.
Effects of climate change
There will be fewer summer stream flows and reduced soil moisture.
