Mise-en-place:
1. Did I Enjoy the Lab?
Yes, I did enjoyed this lab because it tasted different and involved us dealing with different ingredients we have never worked with like the rice paper and shrimp. I also enjoyed this lab because I would probably never think to make this for my self as a snack or meal at home. As well as I loved the sauce, and I would of never thought there would be peanut butter in the sauce and still add texture and density to the sauce itself.
2. What reasonable thing would you do to alter this recipe to keep it healthy or make it healthier?
I would probably add some dark green leafy vegetables instead of the lettuce. Because lettuce has little nutritional value, and adding something like spinach will add extra vitamins. Also I would remove the peanut sauce, as the hoisin is a big source of sodium. Without the sauce there is a huge difference in sodium. or you could lower the amount of hoisin you add to the sauce.
3. Often, rolls like these are served deep fried. Most people understand that deep frying food is not healthy for us. What exactly does deep frying do to our food?
Deep frying is used with oil and that oil is mostly fat. When we deep fry we are eating a lot of that fat from the oil. Also there is saturated and trans fats which increase cholesterol. if you eat high amounts of fried foods you are in greater risk of obesity, heart attacks, high cholesterol and diabetes.
