Chem 11- Base Identification Project- Gaverielle Infante

Calculations:

Conclusion:

We used the Titration lab to determine the concentration of the unknown base because we knew what the concentration of the acid was so our best procedure was to melt the acid and put it through Titration and compare the concentration to other lower weak bases and the closest one should be the base. To determine the unknown base, we burned various bases to see what colors they produced. Hoping to find a base that would turn orange when burned. The CaOH base was the one that gave us the orange color that we were looking for. 2 non-human errors that occurred in the lab was having some of the base particles that we weren’t allowed to contain slid through while we were pouring the base into our beaker and another error is the measuring instruments used in the lab. There may have been an imperfect design on the meausring instruments which can cause inaccurate data. Ways to correct these errors is to use a filter to pour in the base to make sure no unwanted particles get in and to get better measuring instruments for a more accurate result.

Circle Work

Principle of Learning: __learning is embedded in memory, history, and story __

From the circle talk I think that learning Is embedded in memory because we learn more about someone when they tell us a memory about something that happened in the past. for example, when you are talking to a friend, and you bring up something for instance music and they tell you their experiences that they encountered with that artist or song. You can then connect and relate to them even more and can learn more about their interests, hobbies and even who they are, which will be useful in the future. During the circle talk everyone said a memory they had with their ancestors and what they did that made them want to honor them. With that information I learned more about what their life was like with these people and how they impacted them. They all told a story about those people and how they all brought them happiness. They all made me know a little bit more about who they were and are today. Without knowing someone’s memory or history it would be difficult to make deep connections with people and make friends.

Prompt: ____ What is good listening? Did you see it today? What did it look like? Or not look like? How can you become a better listener?

In my opinion good listening is when a person’s whole attention is towards you. They don’t distract themselves with anything and have their focus on you only. When someone gives you eye contact that means they are listening and intrigued with what you have to say. Everyone during the circle talk had

their attention on the speaker and I know this because I saw people smiling when one was talking therefore, they were listening to what they were saying. Sometimes people would get a quick glance at their phone, probably to check the time but after that they would refocus on the one with the stick. To be a better listener, I feel you must turn your whole body towards them and wait for them to finish talking and then give your opinions. What helps me know that someone is listening to me is when they give me little expressions on their faces while I’m talking and that makes me feel safe to talk around them because they want to know what I’m talking about. With this, when you show people better listening you will gain more respect from them.
