Circle work reflection

In the Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being it says that “The deepest learning takes place through lived experience. It requires exploring our identities, learning from our mistakes, and having gratitude for our gifts”. I think different questions from the circle talk discussion had me reflecting on different parts of that quote. The question about who you wanted to honor as an elder had me thinking about the experiences I’ve lived through. When the question about ancestry along with the question about honouring our younger selves came up it had me reflecting on my identity. The circle talk also helped me have gratitude for my gift when it comes to still loving to read just like I did when I was a kid, which was the thing I choose to honour.

I feel good listening is making sure your attention is focused on the speaker, I do feel that I saw it for the most part during the circle talk. For me it looked like everyone paying attention, no one was talking to their friends or on their phones. I did however notice some people didn’t appear to be fully paying attention. I do not know what was going on in their minds though, so I do not know for sure if they were in fact not paying attention. I feel I can become a better listener by making sure that when I am listening, I try my best to keep my attention on the speaker and not spacing out.

the name of  my device is Christmas lights

the first step in my device is:

this is my energy form one which is mechanical energy. I achieve this by using the screwdriver to unscrew the screw. this is also one of my three simple machines it is a pully system which you will see more of in the next step.

this is my next form of energy which is gravitational. this is achieved when the car is released from the pully system and goes down my second simple machine the inclined plane, and the car itself is my third simple machine it is a wheel and axel.

this is my next form of energy it involves both gravitation and sound. the gravitational is when the dominoes fall and the sound it makes when they hit each other is sound energy. in this step, the car is released and rolls down to hit the dominoes.

this step has the same forms of energy as the last just gravitational and sound. the dominoes hit each other and fall.

this step is also the same as the last. sound and gravitational energy. dominoes hit each other and fall down.

this last step includes sound energy, gravitational, potential, and radiant. sound energy when the dominoes hit each other and also when the golf ball hits the battery it makes a very loud sound. gravitational when the dominoes fall and when the golf ball falls. potential when the battery goes back in place. radiant when the Christmas lights turn on. in this step the dominoes fall and hit the golf ball the golf ball falls and hits the battery back in place which results in the lights turning on.

my simple machines: wheel and axle, pulley system, and incline plane.

my types of energy: gravitational, mechanical, sound, radiant, and potential.

my energy transfers: mechanical to gravitational, gravitational and sound to potential, potential to radiant.

step one: using the screwdriver to unscrew the screw letting the pulley system go

step two: the car rolls down the inclined plane hitting the dominoes

step three: the dominoes hit each other and fall

step four: the dominoes hit the golf ball causing it to fall

step five: the golf ball falls hitting the battery back in place turning on the Christmas lights

Positive Personal and Cultural Identity: How does Francophone media (music, television and film, social media) play a role in your growth as a French language learner?

  • Does understanding French media give you a sense of pride?

It does but sometimes it can get annoying because my mom will always ask me to translate stuff and if we are watching a television show and they say something in french she will ask me what they said.

  • Do you feel differently when you hear a French song vs. a song in a language you don’t understand?

Yes because if I hear a song in french I understand some of its words or sentences here and there. Whereas a song in a language I don’t understand I am completely clueless about what the song is about.

  • Does it impact your learning?

Yes because I can understand things in french in things like shows or movies without having to turn on English subtitles.

Birds on a line

By: Elsie

Banksy mural showing pigeons in Clacton

The topic of this image I feel is racism and immigration. The image has a group of pigeons bombarding a small exotic bird with their signs telling the bird to go back to where he came from, and that he is not welcome. The colours used in the image are black, gray, white, blue, yellow, and green. I feel the colours chosen are symbolic because the artist used black, gray, and white for the pigeons. The artist then used blue, yellow, and green for the small exotic bird. I feel this symbolizes the black and white mindset of the pigeons and how they see something different like the colourful bird and they recast by rejecting and being unwelcoming to the colourful bird. I see one major line in this image and that line is the line that the birds are sitting on. There are not very many shapes in this image. Only a rectangle and two squares. There is no pattern used for the shapes. Is there order or chaos conveyed in the shapes? No, but I feel there is order and chaos conveyed in the image. In the image there is a sense of order in the world of the pigeons and then one day a little colourful bird comes and the bird is different and the pigeons decide that they do not like this different bird and they want it to go away. They feel that this small bird will ruin their order. So, to protect said order they create chaos. The exact thing they were so scared of in the first place.
